Black-ish : 4 Emmy nominations including two for acting.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine : 2 Emmy nominations including one for acting.
The Great : 2 Emmy nominations including one for writing and one for directing
Ramy : 3 Emmy nominations including one for directing and two for acting.ReplyFYC:
"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")
July 29, 2020 at 10:29 am #1203612543This is actually a hard one, there’s an argument to be had for all of these outside of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
I’m going to say Ramy because of that Directing nomination. The Great seems relatively weaker given that Fanning was snubbed for Ellis Ross. I was about to say that Black-ish seemed weaker than Ramy given that it only hit in acting and tech categories, but it was able to manage a series nomination for 3 years with similar showings, so it’s a strong possibility.

I actually think had there been a 2% rule The Great could have gotten nominated for Series because I think it can do exactly what Succession did last year and win Writing.

July 29, 2020 at 11:07 am #1203612635I would risk The Great because of the nominations in Directing and Writing.

ReplyCopy URLJuly 29, 2020 at 11:27 am #1203612712It was too soon for The Great to break out with its late release and young cast. I only had it in writing because of comedy directing’s bias toward series nominees. Ramy on the other hand had its stage set and it still missed writing. I expect it to contract like Better Call Saul and This is Us did after capitalizing on the open field last year. Voted black-ish.

Weird how 4/6 shows they nominated missed Series.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 29, 2020 at 11:55 am #1203612783I think it was Black-ish. That Tracee Ellis Ross nomination is very telling.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 29, 2020 at 1:13 pm #1203613106The Great was only nominated for its pilot, right? I liked the pilot a lot, but I had to quit the show after episode 4. The show was too weird for me. Which is odd, because I loved The Favourite. I think Black-ish was probably 9th.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 29, 2020 at 2:32 pm #1203613381Voted black-ish since it’s the only show that overperformed out of these.
One thing to note about The Great and Ramy is that the former had 3 submissions in Directing (and 1 Writing) and got in both. Ramy had 1 Directing and 2 Writing submissions; would love to hear people’s theories about why it missed there. Did The Great simply submit more strategically, or was it actually stronger?
