The TV categories are known for being crazy and different from the emmys. So whats your riskiest nominations? It can also be your riskiest shutout.

Matthew MacFadyen getting a reactionary nomination for Quiz as a result of his Emmy nomination for Succession à la Kathy Bates.

FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"

Predictions that aren’t in the predictions center top 7:

    DRAMA SERIES: P-Valley
    COMEDY SERIES: Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist
COMEDY ACTOR: Nicholas Hoult (this one won’t apply for long)
LIMITED SERIES: The Good Lord Bird
    LIMITED ACTOR: Jeremy Pope
SUPPORTING ACTOR: Jim Parsons, Christian Slater
SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Letitia Wright, Fiona Shaw

Matthew MacFadyen getting a reactionary nomination for Quiz as a result of his Emmy nomination for Succession à la Kathy Bates.

When did this happen to Kathy Bates? Unless you’re referring to her winning the Emmy and getting nominated for the Globe just for different seasons of AHS.

I know it’s a stretch but yep that is what I was referring t0 when she won for AHS and got nominated at the Emmys.

It’s a long shot for sure and I am finding these predictions of Michael Sheen to be quite comical but I have a feeling MacFadyen is a sleeper here (for a nomination). That Limited/Movie Actor category is known for throwing surprise nominations (Christopher Abbott, Daniel Bruhl, David Oyelowo etc) and MacFadyen to me feels like he could be “the WTF nomination of the year”.

His star has been rising because of Succession (which the HFPA snubbed him for despite him later getting nominated at the Emmys for it) and Quiz (whilst it was DOA when it aired in the States) was a massive hit internationally (especially in the UK) like Catch-22. Then you have the buzz for The Assistant that both himself (in his small supporting role) and Julia Garner have been getting. I think The Assistant will be a no-factor this film awards season (outside of the Spirits and maybe CCA) but I think it has had more visibility than we think due to the pandemic so I think it could indirectly help MacFadyen here for Succession and Garner at the Globes, SAG and CC for Ozark.

I don’t know but a lineup of Grant-Hawke-Jackman-Mescal-Ruffalo seems too safe to me. Perhaps the upset is someone like Jude Law or Bryan Cranston instead of MacFadyen? Idk.

I’m currently thinking Hawke is winning GG but missing SAG.

Kate Mara is another risky prediction of mine.

One of the five people predicting Holland Taylor for a GG nom.  I have wanted to replace her but at this point kinda think why not?

We just saw the HFPA not nominated Jerome last year after winning the Emmy so Ruffalo missing wouldn’t shock me at all.

Neither would Mescal (but his and DEJ’s star’s have been on the rise so much since April and they’ve attended a few virtual HFPA events so think he’s safe, for now) and/or Jackman (but that’s just a niggling hunch with him that I can’t put my finger on)

    COMEDY SERIES: Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

How this still has 100/1 odds is baffling. It’s thee definition of Globe bait.

I don’t think it’s that big of a risk since it seems like it has no passion left, but a total shutout of Lovecraft Country.
