Sure the TV Academy could defer back to Maisel but I truly believe that we’re getting a new Series winner next year and that it’s either going to be one of these, BarryRussian Doll or Pen15.

Which do you guys think is the most likely. I personally can see routes for all of them to a Series win apart from Dead to Me (which I have included in this poll because it did break through this year a little bit).

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

I think Issa winning actress is the most likely of all, but that WWDITS is probably more likely to win series than Insecure

Maisel or a new more Emmy obvious show. Schitt’s creek was obvious thanks to their buzz and record 15 nods for a final season. But unless these similar (in Emmy terms) shows end up with something like that (and they won’t) it’s gonna be Maisel or something new.

Ramy, Insecure, Shadows, Dead to Me, Pen15 will never win Comedy Series.

Or wait for Barry to return, maybe there’s your answer.

I voted for What We Do in the Shadows solely because of its three writing nominations. I did not anticipate Schitt’s Creek could ever win series let alone fully sweep when it was first nominated last year, so I really don’t know at this point.

The Great is too offbeat. Insecure is more dramedy, and although I can see it doing very well like Maisel perhaps, I don’t think it’s going to explode any more than it did this year. Dead To Me is a non-player. Ramy- maybe, it’s a great show and I hope it wins many, but they need to step up their game. The name is also too synonymous with Youssef, the category favours ensembles.

In my book, WWDITS is the likeliest, particularly if they take the more character-driven approach to S3 instead of just bottle episodes with no real linear progression. It has the quality, the novelty, the acting, and the pedigree.

Comedy series these days don’t really have a lot of buzz compared to past years. I can never fully understand the online buzz of a show since many people prefer to watch old sitcoms with 100+ episodes. I’m pretty sure Friends or The Office would sweep if they were competing. Although recently, many people on twitter are excited about PEN15 S2.

I can see What We Do in the Shadows either fully blossoming into a contender that gets into acting and directing, or staying only in writing. Here’s hoping it’s the former.

Maisel or a new more Emmy obvious show.

The thing is with Maisel is I think it will continue to do very well in nominations (it’s acting chances are a bit confusing considering how it did well in nominations elsewhere and was the second most awarded Comedy this year yet like every other non SNL or Schitt’s show they got shut out in wins) and that it has the potential to do very well for its final season (i.e. Series, Brosnahan and Borstein winning) but I just don’t see it winning again as a perennial Series winner when there is the possibility of a more popular show coming in its way.

With Maisel as well I am quite curious to see how it does. If it has a Handmaid’s or GoT dip in acclaim it’s finished at the Emmys (in terms of being close to winning Series) but if it manages to take a break and stay where it is at in critical acclaim or have a more acclaimed season I think it will continue to be in the top 2/3 for Series (although like I said I don’t see it winning again soon).

Ramy, Insecure, Shadows, Dead to Me, Pen15 will never win Comedy Series.

I agree about Dead to Me but can you really doubt three time in one year Writing nominee What We Do in the Shadows and the show that went from 1 to 8 Emmy nominations in one year and benefitted from a Schitt’s split in Editing instead of Maisel?

Insecure got a big bump and has the benefit of being on HBO, they know how to do FYC campaigns.  The question is what happens when Barry comes back and they potentially have 2 shows to campaign.

Next year, it’ll most likely be Barry vs Atlanta if they both qualify.

Atlanta won’t be returning on time I think but I also am a bit iffy about its Emmy chances next time round. Sure it lost to Maisel when it swept but like Ozark what confuses me is how for its best season it won less Emmys and unlike Ozark got shut out at the main ceremony. I mean it probably wasn’t even second in Comedy in 2018 which it probably was in 2017.

Filming of Season 3 and 4 of Atlanta will only start in early 2021. I may be mistaken, but it seems unlikely that they will be able to finish before May.
