I thought it would be better to create a separate thread for this topic, considering that not everyone finished Season 4 yet and the discussion could be lost. If most find it unnecessary, I will delete it.
Mine would be:
– Olivia Colman: “Favourites” (or “War”)
– Tobias Menzies: “War” (or “Gold Stick”; I hope that he will be submitted this year as Supporting)
– Helena Bonham Carter: “The Hereditary Prince”
– Gillian Anderson: “48:1” (or “The Balmoral Test”)
– Josh O’Connor: “Terra Nullius” (or “War”)
– Emma Corrin: “Terra Nullius” (or “Fairytale” or “War”)
– Erin Doherty: “Favourites”

Emma Corrin: “Fairytale”
Josh O’Connor: “War”Deserve the nomination
Olivia Colman: “Fagan”
Gillian Anderson: “War”Deserve the nomination if the field is weak
Helena Bonham Carter: “The Hereditary Principle”
Tobias Menzies: “Gold Stick”I don’t think Erin Doherty should be nominated at all, but if she ends up being, I agree that her submission should be “Favourites”.

lol he could get in for almost any ep he stars, War and Avalanche are the obvious ones but he’s still nomination worthy for Terra Nullius too.

(1)The Crown underperforms for acting every year despite people hyping it up every year the month after it comes out.
(2)I think there will be under 8 nominees in the category since there will be less submissions.
(3)Handmaids Tale and Morning Show are popping with supporting actors, beloved by acting branch and confirmed coming back.
(4)Succession is the same except it is only likely coming back.
(5)Tom Pelphrey was snubbed just last year. All those reasons make me think that Josh O’Connor will be snubbed. I also think Gillian Anderson might be too

1) There will be 8 nominees. We just saw how the acting categories in Comedy had less submissions than what Drama will have this year and they had 8 nominees.
2) What hyping up every year and underperforms in acting every year are you talking about? Last year yes The Crown under-performed for its least acclaimed season that hardly anyone watched. But when The Crown s2 no one was overhyping it. People went to the lengths of predicting Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley over Vanessa Kirby and Matt Smith and some had it in 6th in Series by the time of the ceremony when in reality it almost won over Game of Thrones. This year it has the most acclaimed season of a Drama Series this cycle (and probably will have one of the most by the end of it if not the most), is a season that a lot are calling the show’s best and is one actors, writers and directors and other notable people in Hollywood have raved about online saying it deserves to win all the awards. Just because it under-performed during the first season of this new era (a complete reboot for the show) it doesn’t mean it will again.
3) The Handmaid’s Tale is weaker with actors. The Crown got its Lead over it in the Actress category and the nominees this year for The Handmaid’s Tale were name-checks for two incumbent acting winners and an actress who had previously won the guest category she was competing in. I agree about The Morning Show but again that’s not some undeniable acting power considering it missed for its co-lead who is one of the most famous people on the planet and its supporting actress who had one of the most acclaimed supporting performances that season so it’s not like The Crown can’t get more acting nominations than it like Succession did.
4) I was floating the idea of Succession returning but I doubt it returns on time. Filming only just started and it’s a show that has a key focus on its international locations. Sure they could incorporate Covid into the story and it might be easier with only 8 episodes to film but they’re still cutting a thin line. Even then it’s not totally implausible for The Crown to get acting players over it (I say this as a stan of Succession). After all Schitt’s Creek got one supporting actress in over The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s incumbent guest actress winner when she moved to supporting. Succession itself got Actor and S. Actor nominations over The Crown despite flopping at SAG where The Crown over-performed. It even won acting awards over Ozark despite being completely ignored by actors the previous season.
5) IMO comparsions between Ozark and The Crown are flawed. The Crown unlike Ozark has a super acclaimed season and The Crown s4 has more buzz than Ozark did internationally. It also has been more widely watched in a few weeks than Ozark was in 8 months. It also has more people starting it from the beginning or jumping on board this season simply because Lady Di and Gillian Anderson are in it (Ozark had people joining in but not as much). But even then the competition is different this year and even with The Morning Show back all of Big Little Lies, Ozark, Stranger Things, Westworld and maybe even Succession are not returning this year so The Crown not only has a stronger season than last year (which was a season that was top 3 in Drama Series) but it also has a weaker field.
Not saying you’re wrong with the O’Connor prediction (I am saying you’re wrong with the Anderson one though because the person who actors like Reese Witherspoon and others have said deserves all the awards for her performance is a clear lock when she’s literally at the top of the ballot and is playing Margaret Thatcher) but I’m intrigued by your S. Actor prediction. The Crown is very clearly (or at least out of all the shows that have aired and out of all the shows nominated in Series that are confirmed to return) the Drama Series frontrunner and it is being pushed a lot more by Netflix than Ozark was this year.
Not to mention the fact that O’Connor and Anderson have baitier and more high profile roles as well as buzz than Pelphrey and McTeer did this year.

Season 1 it missed Jared Harris, Vanessa Kirby and Matt Smith
Season 2 it misses Jodie Balfour (who was absolutely incredible) and Matthew Goode
Season 3 it missed Tobias Menzies and Josh O’Connor
And I’ve been on the forums for a while and literally everytime the Crown comes out, it monopolizes chatter for at least a month after here and then months later when nominations come out buncha actors missed. Thats what I mean by overhype.
Hey those are really good points! With 8 nominees, and no Succession, Crown can probably get a supporting actor nomination. You will probably be right on that
