As the casts of shows get bigger and bigger–thanks Game of Thrones and Orange Is the New Black–and more shows take on big-name guest performers, isn’t it time we make history with a single show taking up ALL the nominations in a single category?
Modern Family has come close, taking up half or more than half of the Supporting Actor in a Comedy race from 2010-2014.
Who has what it takes to make it happen this year–in what category with which nominees?Riley (the normal one, not the one who won the predictions contest)ParticipantMay 24, 2016 at 12:53 pm #1201840631
Game of Thrones might fill the entire cinematography field this year. They submitted five last year and took four of seven slots, due to a double-tie. The other nominees were Boardwalk Empire (ineligible), The Good Wife (two nominations in six seasons) and House of Cards (submitting two cinematographers for the first time this year).May 24, 2016 at 1:16 pm #1201840651
The Leftovers supporting actresses this year are amazing. You have Regina King, Amy Brenneman, Ann Dowd, and Carrie Coon (unless Coon submits lead which I think she will). So, then that’d fill up half of the category.
Orange Is the New Black also has great supporting actresses in season three. (although the performances altogether didn’t equate to season two because season two was phenomenal).May 24, 2016 at 1:35 pm #1201840662

Orange is the New Black can fill that drama supporting actress category and it’ll still not be enough to recognize all the great talent.

Having an entire category devoted to a show was always a bit excessive to me. I dreaded it when the four Modern Family men filled up the category of Sup. Actor after only one of them even approached “funny”.

Fargo in Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.
Out of the nine actors they submitted on their FYC in this category, I envision four or five of them are strongly in contention for nominations. They ultimately won’t get that many because there have been so many incredible Limited Series this year, but it’s really hard to decide who would get left off from the below list:
Angus Sampson (unlikely, no name recognition)
Brad Garrett (unlikely, but I hope so, because his scenes opposite Jean Smart were excellent)
