We’ve seen over the past two years where actresses who were snubbed in the Drama or Comedy Actress fields or dropped like Mandy Moore, Viola Davis, Issa Rae and Tracee Ellis Ross make it back in when the field gets slightly weaker. With the field looking weaker next year in Drama Actress with Euphoria and Killing Eve not returning which Drama Actress is the most likely to return after getting dropped or get nominated after previous snubs à la Moore.
I personally think Moore.
DISCUSS your thoughts below on who you think.
FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).September 22, 2020 at 3:30 pm #1203728559
I would say Moore. As I think This Is Us gonna be a big player at next years Emmys so her getting nominated again is likely. I don’t really see Moss rebounding as Handmaid’s Tale will probably dwindle in quality over the years, much like Homeland. I don’t see MJ Rodriguez ever getting nominated unless Pose has a spectacular season, which I just don’t see.
FYC Oscars: Chloe Zhao (Nomadland), Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods), Mark Rylance (Trail of the Chicago 7), Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), Soul (Best Picture, Best Animated Feature Film, and Best Original Screenplay)
FYC Grammys: Circles (Album of the Year), Good News (Record and Song of the Year), Future Nostalgia (Album of the Year), Don't Start Now (Record and Song of the Year), Everything I Wanted (Record and Song of the Year)September 22, 2020 at 3:34 pm #1203728572
Hoping for Mandy Moore and MJ Rodriguez. Both are doing amazing jobs and MJ’s nomination would be historic. She needs to happen at least once before the show ends.
Edit: Forgot to say who I voted for. I picked Moore because This Is Us still has some pulse among actors, as shown by Ron Cephas Jones’ win and the fact they never dropped Sterling K. Brown. I’m also expecting the show to get SAG ensemble nom again, and Mandy Moore’s material is going to be beyond baity.September 22, 2020 at 5:50 pm #1203728789
Really hoping for Mandy Moore, she truly deserves the recognition because she only have gotten better with every season of This Is Us. IF THT comes back on time, Elisabeth Moss could easily be back, but I think we’re gonna have someone new in the categorySeptember 22, 2020 at 6:56 pm #1203728876
Moore can absolutely can back (and in all likelihood will). She’s done it before in weak fields; TIU still has the backing of the actors; has beyond excellent material lined up for S5; was probably 7th-9th (sorry Nicole, Elisabeth, Viola & ReeseX2) and most importantly, she’s already done it before.
Will continue the prayer circles for Critics Choice nominee MJ Rodriguez until it happens.September 23, 2020 at 6:24 am #1203729491
Elisabeth Moss is an Emmy winner in this category and multiple times nominee. Ofc, she’d be more likely to return than a one-time nominee and MJ Rodriguez, who the Emmys will, unfortunately, never nominate.September 23, 2020 at 6:38 am #1203729518
I think Elisabeth Moss. Her show is still performing the best compared to POSE and This Is Us awards-wise but apparently (haven’t seen it post season 1) it’s also getting worse with each season.
Mandy Moore should have the biggest chance though as she’s delivering sublime work in a show that has consistent quality.
I don’t think the Emmys care about POSE much aside from Billy Porter.September 23, 2020 at 6:39 am #1203729520
To be fair, Rodriguez can’t really rebound as she never got nominated in the first place.

Ms. Moss without a doubt.

I could see Elisabeth Moss going the same path as Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife. I just think the competition was way too strong this year and her show aired basically a whole year ago. I do think she’s coming back and I wouldn’t be surprised if she won again.September 23, 2020 at 7:43 am #1203729656
Moss is gone and the Emmys are better off for it.

Depends on the political climate. The next season of the Handmaid’s Tale could be incredibly relevant and could boost it back into the top tier spots for a lot of categories. Moss could easily return.
With that said, I do think it is undeniable that This Is Us will be stronger next year, which would help boost Moore back into the line-up.
MJ Rodriguez should be in the running, but her best chance honestly was Season 1.September 23, 2020 at 9:46 am #1203729982
I agree with the idea of Moss eventually winning again à la Margulies but the way The Handmaid’s Tale crashed with the actors branch this year makes me think she’ll end up like Claire Danes. I mean it’s not as if Handmaid’s was like Maisel or Insecure this year where they got shut out because of a full acting sweep because Bradley Whitford and Alexis Bledel could have easily won again over Billy Crudup and Cherry Jones.
But yeah I also agree with it depending on the political climate because I think both Handmaid’s and This is Us could either do very well (neither are close to winning Series) next year or underperform again. I think Handmaid’s like I said before could have suffered a lot from being a dark show that no one wanted to watch or award because of how shit 2020 and the world has been recently.

I think Moore and Moss can get back in…. Moore will have the material for sure this season. I really hope she makes it back in. “This is Us” is also shooting now and will air this year…. There’s no set air date for a return for “Handmaids” even though they are about to resume filming.September 24, 2020 at 12:15 am #1203731313

They’ve been filming for three weeks now and had two weeks in the can before the lockdown happened.
