I was just thinking that my 2 favorite shows (30 Rock and Avonlea) had really amazing scores within their episodes. I would also add FNL and Family Guy just off the top of my head. What about you guys?February 16, 2012 at 10:03 am #240056
Lost and 24 come to mind. Michael Giacchino and Sean Callery, respectively, did some really great work on their shows. Glad both of them have Emmys for it.February 16, 2012 at 10:17 am #240057
I liked when L.A. Law would vary its music depending on the story. Sometimes it would be the uptempo theme other times it would have more drama.February 16, 2012 at 10:24 am #240058
As for original music, Lost is the first one that comes to mind. Breaking Bad and The Sopranos make excellent use of music too, but not necessarily original music.February 16, 2012 at 10:39 am #240059

The Sopranos & The Wire for me.Riley (the normal one, not the one who won the predictions contest)ParticipantFebruary 16, 2012 at 11:03 am #240061
Battlestar Galactica‘s music is very overrated.
They only have like two motifs that they reuse over and over again, but I like the sound on Dexter. Dexter also wins for title theme.February 16, 2012 at 11:04 am #240062
Also worth noting is Game of Thrones, for score and title theme (both should’ve been nominated, and the title theme should’ve won).February 16, 2012 at 11:25 am #240063
Game of Thrones, yes. I’ve mentioned this one many times. Six Feet Under, too. I love Thomas Newman’s work. I LOVED his music for Angels in America. So perfect.
Right now, I’m diggin’ the music for Luck, though I know it’s not original. It sort of reminds me of the Sopranos. I get the same vibe, that same sense of expectation.
I loved the music for Rubicon.February 16, 2012 at 1:29 pm #240064
Lost, The Wire, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, 30 Rock, Whitney’s jazz score is catchy.February 16, 2012 at 4:40 pm #240065
I don’t think The Sopranos ever had a measure of original music. But I suppose the way they used music was memorable…February 16, 2012 at 5:11 pm #240067
^^^Agreed. 24 will always be the best. The series as a whole fluctuated but the score was always amazing.February 16, 2012 at 6:21 pm #240068
My favorites are Lost and Twin Peaks.February 16, 2012 at 6:23 pm #240069
The Sopranos & The Wire for me.
I may be wrong but The Wire never had music that wasn’t playing on a stereo or something in any episodes but the finales and I thought those were songs they barrowed from artists that previously recorded them. But I could be wrong…. just what I always thought.
