The title says it all. Have you ever watched a show a thought “this would be better if it was two hours long and I was watching this in a theater, then I never had to watch it again.”
For me; Burn Notice, A Gifted Man, Enlightened, Glee, Suburgatory and The Killing seem like better ideas as movies.
What do you think?January 29, 2012 at 1:02 pm #237940
Prison Break, should’ve been a movie, the first season was one of the most fantastic first seasons of a show that I’ve ever seen and if it was a movie, with all the aspects and Ideas of the first season, It would’ve been a hit in every possible way.January 29, 2012 at 2:17 pm #237941
Sleeper Cell, Homeland, Most seasons of Damages.January 29, 2012 at 2:19 pm #237942
Work It! 😉 (it would at least get some Razzie love)January 29, 2012 at 2:25 pm #237943
“The Killing”, obviously. But also, “Heroes” would’ve worked much better as a film that ended saving the cheerleader, saving the world, and that’s it. “Pushing Daisies” also got way too cutesy (yes, too cutesy even for this show) and predictable for its own good because the story was dragging and they tried to make it by out-cute-ing themselves, so I’d say a film would’ve been better than a show.January 29, 2012 at 2:32 pm #237944
Enlightened was very much a mini movie feel when I watched all of the episodes in one sitting. Suburgatory would be seen as “revelatory” if it was in animation, but it’s just fine as a cartoon come to life.January 29, 2012 at 4:04 pm #237945
The Killing, definitely. Boardwalk Empire would have been really interesting as a movie, especially if they ended at the same point season two did. The Tick may have worked, especially as a good precursor to Kick-Ass or Defendor.January 30, 2012 at 7:50 am #237946
No one disses Pushing Daisies! The cuter the better.
I think most of the shows mentioned would work better as mini-series rather than movies or long for series.January 30, 2012 at 9:27 am #237947
For me, the idea of The Killing — a single murder mystery that is approached in long-form — sounded terrific. But having seen nearly the entire first season now (it’s extremely boring at this point), I don’t even think a film would’ve executed the story well.
As adorable as New Girl is, it has always seemed like a bubbly rom-com that is slowly being stretched out. It would’ve been interesting to see where they took the narrative if they only had two hours to fill.
Back in its second season, I wondered what Breaking Bad the film would’ve looked like. But given the material, and the slow (d)evolution of many of its main characters, I don’t think two or even three hours could’ve done the story justice.January 30, 2012 at 9:39 am #237948
I think The Walking Dead would work better as a film.January 30, 2012 at 9:43 am #237949
I think The Walking Dead would work better as a film.
Good choice. There would be no worry of dragging out the plot if the story itself was compressed into a few hours.January 30, 2012 at 10:34 am #237950
The only thing about The Walking Dead that is engaging is that they took a topic that is typically put into a film and serialized it in TV. LOL, weirdest comment I’ve seen in a while.January 30, 2012 at 10:52 am #237951
That is why I said it would work better as a film.January 30, 2012 at 11:12 am #237952
