Basically the exact same poll as forwardswill’s one earlier this year for the Emmy Limited Series contenders.
There is a tonne of shows that are still to air in 2020 that are competing for the Limited Series or Movie Made for Television category at the Globes and I just wondered what shows people think will underwhelm or flop?

A Teacher
The Undoing
We Are Who We AreThe anthology aspect will hold it back
Small Axe
Will probably be good but on the HBO-Maxness of it all
Boys
Will be good quality-wise but won’t touch awards
Bly Manor
Could go either way
The Comey Rule
The Good Lord BirdCould be too weird
The Third Day

ReplyCopy URLAugust 10, 2020 at 6:45 am #1203636936I would say The Good Lord Bird but the Globes like Showtime shows. I voted Small Axe not because I think it will be a critical flop, but because I don’t think it’ll be a big awards player.

Both of those projects did well, so I don’t really get this post.

I’m not even sure it will make the eligibility window for the Globes. FX Now has Fargo set to premiere at the end of September (along with Mrs America). It’s finished so if Impeachment still isn’t completed (Murphy projects have a quick turnover but still), they still have it in to air in winter/spring 2021 if they shirt on content and as second horse for the 2021 Emmys.

Would normally agree, it feels like another victim of “too much TV” despite its prestige factor (see The Little Drummer Girl) but this upcoming cycle will be an asterisk year so who knows how it’ll play.

I just have doubts because it seems like it’s not a conventional TV series. I’m pretty sure the first two episodes work as standalone movies? I could be wrong though.

What I am saying is that I think it will do well but I think it could either explode like Vice did and get three actors in or it will be like The Loudest Voice and get into Series and one Actor in only.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 10, 2020 at 12:00 pm #1203637737I feel like we are creating negative biases towards these shows before they are even out. All of these shows have amazing talent behind them and we are talking which one is going to fail before we watch and appreciate these shows.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 10, 2020 at 12:01 pm #1203637742The Comey Rule. I don’t see the award bodies having anything to do with the Trump administration.

Well I don’t think we created negative bias from doing it about the Emmys.
