Since The Last of Us Part II is coming out soon, the original game has been on my mind, and I’ve been wondering about who will be cast in the leading roles for HBO’s retelling of it.
The two names I’ve heard thrown around the most of Joel are Hugh Jackman and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. In my mind, it should be one of them, as they both have the perfect look, and they excel when playing complicated anti-heroes like Joel. I think I’ll give Coster-Waldau just a slight bump over Jackman, just because I know Jackman will continue to be a high profile celebrity who gets great roles, while Coster-Waldau’s future is a bit more uncertain.
As for Ellie, I’m personally hoping for an unknown. I’ve heard a lot of people rooting for Kaitlyn Dever and, to a lesser extent, Sophia Lillis, and while I think they both have the acting chops to take on the part (especially Dever, who happens to look exactly like the character), I think they’ve both aged out of character, with Dever being almost a whole decade older than her. Out of all the actresses in that age range that I know, I wouldn’t mind Dafne Keen, but I feel like playing Ellie would be a bit too similar to her role in Logan, and if Jackman gets cast, then it would be especially distracting.
For those who have played the game, or are at least familiar with it, who do you think should play Joel and Ellie?
ReplyOh, I never though about Nikolaj playing Joel, but I liked the idea.
When I was playing the game, I always found Joel similar to Dylan McDermott. He would be a nice choice too.
About Ellie, Dever would be a perfect cast decision but she is too old for the role. Maybe a unknown actress could play this part.
