As of right now Brian Cox is the favorite for Actor in a Drama Series coming off of a Golden Globe much like Sandra Oh. However it seems like Jeremy Strong had the performance that resonated slightly more with Critics(hence the Critics Choice win, and the TCA nom), and the Succession fanbase overall much like Jodie Comer. So which is more likely? Brian Cox getting the win or him getting Comer’d by Jeremy Strong?

July 11, 2020 at 7:08 am #1203581029It’s possible but I’m still predicting Cox because unlike Oh, his acclaim is on a similar level to his costar. In terms of performance pretty much everyone preferred Comer, while that’s not the case here.

Which could lead to them vote splitting.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 11, 2020 at 7:10 am #1203581037They are obviously vote splitting if both are nominated. But, except Globes there are actually no indications of Cox being ahead of Strong. He got CC and TCA, and it’s possible the industry prefers him aswell (he is also campaining unlike Cox).
ReplyCopy URLJuly 11, 2020 at 7:14 am #1203581039I haven’t watched all of season 2, so far I’ve seen 7 episodes. As of now, I think Cox is superior and I think he most likely will win. Strong is very good but am I the only one who thinks he’s more supporting than lead this season?! I even think Sarah Snook is way more of a lead than him. Also Cox has a much bigger and showy performance, wich I think might appeal more to the acting branch. But like I said, I haven’t finished watching it, so my opinion might change with the next episodes.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 11, 2020 at 7:20 am #1203581046Obviously I’ve only seen 6 eps of S2, but I agree with estrelas in that, so far, Strong feels very much like a supporting player to me. I, too, find Cox to be superior. He was so good in Hunting and Tern Haven! But I’ve heard that the finale really is Strong’s vehicle!

Cox has been in a lot of publications campaigning too.

So was Oh.
I don’t think vote splitting will affect them, because I think they both will be ahead of their competition.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 11, 2020 at 7:38 am #1203581074There is a crucial difference between Oh vs. Comer and Cox vs. Strong in that had you asked most people who they’d choose in the former race, they would have said Comer (which many of us didn’t factor in enough). With Cox and Strong, it’s more split, no? I don’t think anyone would just give Cox the edge because he’s a more seasoned actor; there’s genuine passion for that performance.
I also don’t necessarily see them being no. 1 and 2 when Jason Bateman is right there. I think people underestimate how much he and his performance are beloved.

According to what? A Golden Globe win? Ok.

Cox is not Oh. “Succession” is not “Killing Eve.” I don’t think vote-splitting will affect Cox. I’m allowed that opinion.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 11, 2020 at 7:52 am #1203581104They could very well give Jason Bateman the Emmy this year Ozark is a bigger show now and this was his best season I agree with all of you that Cox should win but we shouldn’t underestimate how liked the former is.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 11, 2020 at 7:55 am #1203581117Personally, I need to see whether Bateman gets in for The Outsider, too, and how that show performs. If the show performs really well, then maybe Bateman’s inclusion doesn’t mean that much in guest actor, but if the show is glaringly blanked in some categories and Bateman manages to get in nonetheless, we might have another Ann Dowd 2017 situation.
