Since True Detective switched to Drama everybody was rooting for recent Oscar Winner Matthew McConaughey to take the award. Everybody was adding what submissions could pay well for McConaughey (”Secret Fate of All Life” + ”Who Goes There”; ”Secret Fate of All Life” + ”Haunted Houses”; ”Who Goes There” + ”Form and Void”;….) but the official submissions results to be ”Form and Void” + ”The Locked Room”. ”Form and Void” has the final scene and ”Locked Room” has some few stuff which can help McConaughey a little bit. But are those moments enough to take down Cranston’s ”Ozymandias”?. In terms of submission Cranston has the edge here, but in terms of screentime and momentum McConaghey wins. What do you think about McConaughey’s chances of winning now?Marcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1)ParticipantJuly 17, 2014 at 10:09 am #324149
Honestly, I think that if McConaughey wins, it will be because of his Oscar and his momentum and nothing else. Yes, he does get a lot of screentime. However, his tape helps Harrelson more than himself, IMO. If McConaughey submitted his best episode of the series, “Who Goes There?”, it would have been a three-way dogfight between Harrelson, himself and Cranston.July 17, 2014 at 11:42 am #324150
I don’t imagine Emmy voters have not seen True Detective. It was all anybody talked about for 3 months and only 8 episodes, it’s not like having to slog through Newsroom or the last year of Mad Men. I would suppose their minds are already made up. Either they loved that performance or they didn’t.July 17, 2014 at 11:50 am #324151
I’m not entirely convinced that voters have seen True Detective en mass but if and when they do, I’d be thrilled if it’s Woody the voters are more impressed by.
Based partially on viewer fatigue and the novelty of something “new” like TD, my chip is next to McConaughey. I just hope they go with Woody instead.July 17, 2014 at 12:00 pm #324152
Tapes don’t matter, he’ll be winning for other reasons.July 17, 2014 at 2:21 pm #324153
If he wins, it’ll be because of the buzz he has. Form and Void is good but he needed Harrelson to submit Who Goes There or Secret Fate.July 17, 2014 at 4:07 pm #324154
Between McConaughey and Harrelson I could not be more dissapointed in there submissions. I personally would like to know if they picked these episodes or if one of there handlers did….because they deserve to be fired. Harrelson’s episode is nothing more that filler and McConaughey’s was the big disappointing season finale. Bryan Cranston should be smiling now knowing he submitted his best work and they clearly did not. If McConaughey wins its on pure momentum from his deserving Oscar win. I finally feel safe predicting a Cranston win.July 17, 2014 at 6:04 pm #324155
Out of the TD guys, Harrelson was better but if Matthew Mc. wins, its becuase he has a lot of buzz after the Oscar win and this roll he has been on.Marcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1)ParticipantJuly 17, 2014 at 6:13 pm #324156

Yeah, pretty much. McConaughey really messed up on his submission. After that brilliant monologue, he doesn’t really do much else. I mean, he has the ending monologue in Harrelson’s episode submission “The Locked Room”, but I’m not sure that is enough to help him. Like I said before, McConaughey’s tape helps Harrelson more than it helps himself. Cranston submitting “Ozymandias” doesn’t help matters at all. If he wins, it will because of the momentum he has and the Oscar he won and nothing more.July 19, 2014 at 12:33 am #324157
“Form and Void” does not have Rust being questioned at the table and flashing back to 1995, so I am glad that voters will get to see that side in “The Locked Room”.
