With the expansion of the final round of voting open to all eligible members will we see more name checking.April 10, 2015 at 11:41 am #346344
Mmm, we have a lot already, it’ll be hard to quantify which noms/wins are because of the rule change and which is just the academy being the academy.April 10, 2015 at 11:48 am #346345
I´d love to see some love for Keri Russel, Eva Green and especially Tatiana Maslany. I dont think a lot of voters are watching The Americans, so dont know how her chances are. And Eva and Tatiana have the genre bias going against them. It would be great, if these ladies get a chance of a nomination, because the voting is open to every member. Hopefully there are more open-minded members in terms of given genre-series a chance.
Then there is Gillan Anderson with her performence in The Fall, that was amazing. I dont know about her chances.April 10, 2015 at 11:51 am #346346
I wonder if Lorraine Toussaint can get in for Orange is the new black . She would have strong stuff to submit but will people watch it . Would she have had a better shot with the blue ribbon panel. Your right though under any system there is name checking but the blue ribbon panel might have been kinder to her.April 10, 2015 at 11:58 am #346347
Sorry if I sound ignorant but this blue ribbon panel is also composed off actors/actresses? What does it says in terms of quality of the performence if all members are allowed to vote? I heard that an academy member can be everyone from an actor to an extra.April 10, 2015 at 12:01 pm #346348
Maslany got in at SAG so maybe there is a chance but I think there are too many people fighting for slots and with Rusell I don’t think the show is on the voters radar. I don’t see that changing now that voting is expanding in the final round to all eligible voters.April 10, 2015 at 12:10 pm #346349
This whole award is about name-checking. That’s why it sucks.April 10, 2015 at 12:13 pm #346350
So the nominees are chosen by all the members and its based on what shows these members actually watch? After the nominations the nominees have to submit an episode and who ever has the best episode wins? So basically it comes down how many members watch a show. Isnt that a bit unfair? Obviously shows on major channels will be watched more than shows on pay-tv. Sorry, I just dont really understand how the whole process works.April 10, 2015 at 12:14 pm #346351

Toussaint is the only cast member from Orange I have predicted for a nom. I seriously think she has a good shot at winning and the others, I’m not so sure.April 10, 2015 at 12:18 pm #346352
What kind of system is better? One where we expand voting and all members get to vote or a panel picks everything. The Golden Globes is a small select group of critics. They often make interesting choices like having Gina Rodriguez or Ruth Wilson winning but with the Emmys l think it should be open to as many voters as possible .April 10, 2015 at 12:23 pm #346353
I have Uzo Aduba, Lorraine Toussaint and Kate Mulgrew all getting in. I think Toussaint and Aduba have excellent chances. I’m not so sure about MulgrewApril 10, 2015 at 12:27 pm #346354
Oh, no, sorry I should express myself clearer. I think it is great that the voting is open to every member. I do not understand how the whole voting process works. I just would found it “unfair” if the members would only watch shows they know, but they might would have prefered another show, if they had known about it. That is what I meant with “unfair”. I do not know, if the members get access to all eligible shows and even watch all/some of them.April 10, 2015 at 12:42 pm #346355
Under either the new or old way of voting The Americans wouldn’t get much support because the voters are not watching it. As more Emmy voters vote online maybe someone like a Maslany can get in because you will have younger voters voting. Being able to view shows online will give people easier access to different kinds of showsApril 10, 2015 at 12:52 pm #346356
It sounds like under the new system it is more of an honor system when it comes to picking the winners. People agree that they will watch the submitted nominees but I don’t know if anyone is holding them accountable. Under the old panel system maybe there was more accountablity and you had different panels watching each submission and voting.April 10, 2015 at 2:12 pm #346357

I love when people say things like this, it just shows me how they do not know what they are talking about at all and have no clue how the Emmy’s actually work.
