Lena Headey inexplicably was submitted in lead for Season 1 of Game of Thrones. This essentially killed her chances of getting nominated for what was a solidly supporting performance, despite her having a great season. Game of Thrones did very well at the Emmys that year, getting nominated for both writing and directing and winning Supporting Actor with Dinklage. Because of this, I wonder if Headey would have made it in if she had been submitted in supporting instead of lead. What do you think?April 23, 2019 at 10:23 pm #1202864151
Like how she was nominated in supporting for seasons 2 and 3?April 23, 2019 at 10:45 pm #1202864179
Season 2 underperformed at the Emmys (it missed writing and directing, failed to expand into any additional acting categories, and wasn’t able to repeat Dinklage’s win despite him having an even better season than the one he won for) and Headey had nothing to do in Season 3 (especially compared to Fairley, Dormer, and Clarke, who probably all got more votes than her that year). Season 1 did very well at the Emmys and Headey was one of the standout performers in it.April 24, 2019 at 4:14 am #1202864486
Currently watching season 1 and I think she would have made a worthy nominee. I had no idea she was submitted to lead, what a weird choice!April 24, 2019 at 4:56 pm #1202865367
Lena should have been nominated in supporting, yes. I don’t know if the Emmys have enough taste tbh. We’re talking about an Academy that continues to ignore Lena’s work that is the best female supporting performance of the last decade.
Lena Headey hasn't got an Emmy for Game of Thrones????? Emmys you need to win her right now!!April 24, 2019 at 5:29 pm #1202865386
The Emmys can like a performance enough to nominate it without being willing to award it the win. Headey unfortunately seems to be proof of that.April 24, 2019 at 11:19 pm #1202865638
No, I really don’t think the actors cared about the show besides Dinklage back then.April 25, 2019 at 12:06 am #1202865662
She wasn’t really deserving of a nod until she grabbed her very first nomination.April 25, 2019 at 12:15 am #1202865671
Blackwater?April 25, 2019 at 12:28 am #1202865694
Emmys 2019 FYC: Lena Headey ("Game of Thrones"), Cicely Tyson ("HTGAWM"), Viola Davis ("HTGAWM"), Richard Madden ("Bodyguard"), "Bodyguard," "The Haunting of Hill House" & "Escape at Dannemora" in all categoriesApril 25, 2019 at 3:53 am #1202865863
Dinklage was the MVP of that Blackwater episode and no way he was winning over Paul. Lena had no business being nominated before the 4th season of Got . However She should have won for Mother’s mercy or TWOW.
I take it you’re not a fan of her acting in scenes like the power is power scene, her asking Joffrey to commit to finding Arya, her telling Sansa to love no one but her her children, her talking to Tyrion about whether Joffrey’s madness is the price for her sins, her being about to kill Tommen to keep him from being captured by Stannis, and the many other great scenes she had that season? Headey’s not my favorite supporting actress from that season (Maisie Williams is), but she is fantastic and was awards-worthy.
