Twin Peaks: The Return was egregiously snubbed in basically every category last year, except for writing and directing, despite being one of the most acclaimed TV series of the year and being the return of one of the most iconic TV shows ever (I may be a bit of a stan but also it’s pretty damn accurate).

My question is, would Twin Peaks have performed better if Showtime/Lynch and Frost had submitted it as the third season of a Drama Series, rather than as a Limited Series? What if they’d somehow broken up the 18 episodes into two or three seasons of nine or six episodes?

Personally, I think if it had been submitted as a Drama last year, it would’ve knocked out This Is Us in Series, Ed Harris in Actor in favor of McLachlan, Alexis Bledel in Supporting Actress in favor of Dern, and Lynch’s Direction instead of “Tonight We Improvise” from Ozark.

But it didn’t face strong competition last year. The Alienist and Patrick Melrose were nominated over it for Series and Legend and Plemons for Actor.

Drama was so packed last year and miniseries was so open, I can’t imagine it would’ve done better, it probably would’ve done worse

While I believe, in terms of integrity and form, that it should have submitted in Drama (or perhaps to the Oscars… hmmm), such a decision would not have resulted in more nominations. As others have said, it would probably have performed even worse above the line than it already did in the Limited categories.

That being said, the Emmys didn’t really deserve to even have the opportunity to only half-heartedly embrace Lynch and the team, so I also would have loved to see them submit in Drama only to be locked out of each race. What happened last year was just a twist of the knife in every way.

Absolutely not. At least it still got writing and directing, it wouldn’t have gotten that in drama. It probably would have lost some craft noms too. I think Twin Peaks did about as well as it could have, you could argue it overperformed. It’s just not an emmys type of show

This is still the biggest snub in recent memory. It would’ve gotten nothing in drama.

Big fan of Better Call Saul, Sex Education, Barry, BoJack Horseman, and, especially, Survivor
