I don’t think Emmy voters know James Graham enough to know he was a producer for Brexit and a writer for Quiz (ok they might know the latter) when his name isn’t the ballot for either.

I agree that Quiz has no chance. Watchmen and Unbelievable are locked and that leaves us three spots which may all go to Mrs. America (no way it goes below two). The following contenders are Unorthodox and Normal People. That being said, I would die for Years and Years to sneak in.

I know many users will disagree with it but I feel like The Good Fight might enter writing this year. It’s a show in the vein of Schitt’s Creek that because it wasn’t a critical hit with its debut it’s hard to evaluate its place when the later seasons are adored by critics. I have read various trade articles on Emmys race and they all seemed to wish the show entering race. Their submission this year is also beloved by people (I don’t watch the show). Not to mention that, with the slot extending there’s really a space for an inspired pick like Pen15 last year. Maybe that inspired pick will be from some another show but I just wanted to entertain the idea that this year’s writing and directing races are bound for surprises.

NOTE: Sorry for double posting without combining posts but the above post is irrelevant to this post.

You’re sort of ignoring the primary reason that TGF hasn’t gotten any nominations thus far: CBS All Access. The comparison to Schitt’s Creek makes no sense. Nothing about that situation has changed so nothing will change for the show either.

I’m not talking about the show entering series or acting categories which needs broad support hence visibility. None of us were predicting Schitt’s Creek last year even though it was known that it was a critical hit with its recent seasons which was not the case when it first debuted. Overall, my point is that it’s hard to predict them but out of nowhere nominations do happen.

The Emmys found Schitt’s Creek by their own, this is the difference, before that the show only got one miserable noms for Comedy at Critics choice. Then last year received its first two noms at TCA (Comedy and Actress), then received a lot of noms at the Emmys, and then all other awards copied them.

If The Good Fight receives noms it will be more comparable to The Americans.

    Comedy Directing Analysis & Trivia

I still couldn’t believe that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel team didn’t submit Dan Attias. Hard to believe it’s strategic. Pretty sure It’s Comedy or Cabbage and Marvelous Radio are gonna get nominated so it will likely split votes. It’s the Sixties, Man! would have been a locked for a nomination if it was submitted. And again, how could you get Dan Attias direct an episode and not submit it for awards consideration?

It seems that he chose to submit only for Homeland.

    Drama Directing Analysis & Trivia

That image always seems like meme worthy material.

FYC Emmys : THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL, SUCCESSION AND THE CROWN IN ALL CATEGORIES. Tony Shalhoub ("Maisel"), Cate Blanchett ("Mrs. America"), Matthew Macfadyen, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook ("Succession"), Tracey Ullman ("Mrs. America") and Louis Gossett Jr. ("Watchmen")

    Drama Directing Analysis & Trivia

    Great article as always, Riley!

I did not knew that Bryce Dallas Howard has started directing, much less The Mandalorian, good for her!

I also did not knew that Shawn Levy has been submitted for my favorite episode Chapter Four: The Sauna Test, I know that is almost impossible, but I want to see him nominated!

    “This Extraordinary Being” should win!

Honestly I’m torn. This episode of Watchmen, Unbelievable’s pilot and Mrs. America’s “Houston” and “Reagan” are among this year’s bests. But my vote would go to Unbelievable, that first scene is so powerful.
