I feel like when we talk about Emmy snubs, it’s almost always about the actors, so I figured I’d make a forum dedicated to it.

The snub that made me think of this was last year when Barry’s Bill Hader lost Direction to Fleabag’s Harry Bradbeer. Both nominated episodes (ronny/lilly and Fleabag’s season 2 premiere) were comedic masterpieces, but while the direction in Barry’s episode was inspired and thrilling, the direction in Fleabag’s episode didn’t really wow me. There’s nothing wrong with it, and works well with the script, but the writing was the real star of that episode (and the overall series), while with Barry, I think it was the other way around.

The Suitcase – Mad Men should’ve won.

Unpopular opinion, but I think Daniel Palladino and “Welcome to the Catskills!” should have won directing last year and not Hader.

Makes sense with 3 episodes nominated and the passion behind the show not being so strong for the last two seasons despite their best drama wins which baffle me to this day!

I lost a lot of respect for the directing branch after this one. It’s the most absurd snub ever

Frasier’s “The Ski Lodge” losing comedy writing in 1998. One of the finest pieces of comedy ever created.

While my vote still would’ve gone for ronny/lilly, We’re Going to the Catskills! was much more deserving than the actual winner.

Like I said, the direction is perfectly fine, but it’s really nothing special, and I think most will agree it won because of the overall love for Fleabag. There were four other nominees I’d have picked over it that year.

The Long Night losing to Jason Bateman. Disgusting.

this is a continuation of what i said in the drama thread, but this snub to me just shows how much the directors branch specifically is more biased to name checks of celebrities/show runners than anyone else. If Comer can overcome vote splitting to beat Oh*,there’s no reason Teddy Perkins and The Long Night needed to fall victim to vote splitting.

    Barry “ronny/lily” losing to Fleabag.

this is an unpopular opinion, but Fleabag 2.1 is one of the best half hours of the decade, and it didn’t direct itself.  Yes, it was a feat of writing above all else and yes I would’ve like to see Barry win more for their great second season, but Phoebe’s script needed to come to life and it was done so incredibly well. The tone of the dinner table was handled expertly, from the absurdity of Godmother to the shock of the miscarriage, it was expertly done, and is unfairly treated as an undeserved win.

Nominations wise, START not cracking the lineup is criminal.

Echoing whoever said Barry for ronny/lily. That was a brilliant episode of TV.

Episode 2.1 of Fleabag is the only episode of television that I would consider to be PERFECTLY written, and I don’t think that anything should have won over it. However…

In any other year, I would be absolutely FURIOUS that “Anna Ishii-Peters” from PEN15 didn’t win. If Episode 2.1 is the best-written TV episode I’ve ever seen, then “Anna Ishii-Peters” has to land somewhere in the top ten. I’m not mad, seeing as how Phoebe Waller-Bridge had to get her dues for that twenty-minute magnificent piece of genius, but there was something just entirely unique and special that the writers of PEN15 found in that one episode, and I’m sad that they couldn’t be rewarded for it in any way.

I’ll say it was snubbed because it didn’t tie. Yeah, let’s go with that. I think a tie would’ve been the ideal situation.

Yes. But I’d still give the writing win to “Q&A”. Probably still my favourite Homeland episode to date. And I am a big fan.

I really loved The Newsroom, and I was very happy when Daniels won, but Lewis was everything in that episode. I still remember when I finished my first watching. It even made me forgive him for beating Cranston in “Crawl Space” back then, haha But it’s all good. Cranston has 4, Daniels and Lewis both have theirs.

I agree with you. LL Glatter should have won for “From A to B and Back Again”. I hope the finale is absolutely great and she somehow ends up winning this year.

GoT writing wins are one of the most intriguing mysteries of mankind.
