I have rewatched Black Mirror: Bandersnatch to see whether I have missed the good ending, but after watching its every ending I seriously don’t think the show will repeat its writing nomination. “San Junipero” was nominated on the merit of its quality and even won over Big Little Lies  because of that. “USS Callister” was again best of its bunch (not as magnificent as “San Junipero” though). However, this doesn’t even have a single ending which manages to conclude its storyline. I hope I’m not the only one thinking like this. The Haunting of Hill House should win with “The Bent-Neck Lady”.

Yeah, Black Mirror is seeming more like it is in trouble in writing. Rami Malek went from a win to a snub under the current voting system. Sherlock has also not been nominated for writing since it won. A Very English Scandal, Escape at Dannemora, Chernobyl and Sharp Objects seem relatively safe, plus Deadwood and When They See Us could be great and The Haunting is also in play, although I am discouraged by their campaigning of multiple episodes. It could get multiple episodes nominated of course; the writers love doing that.

After that remarkable trailer for When they See Us this could be a contender for writing and directing, especially with the social injustice angle. Can Ava give Ben Stiller any real competition? Hard to say until reviews come in, and the trailer for Fosse/Verdon was amazing and the actual show was a bit of a letdown.

I’m predicting Fleabag for writing, but that probably means one of the three comedy players – Mrs. Maisel, Veep or Barry won’t get a second nomination. Dare I say Daniel Palladino will be snubbed? He was nominated individually by the DGA, not WGA, but he wrote the Catskills episode. Barry got two nominations last year and Veep was nominated twice with two nominees.

I figure that Daniel Palladino is safe because I do not think that voters will be able to distinguish the episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, so anyone who wants to support the show at all will vote the ticket. Voters will know which episode “ronny/lily” is, so I could see people not checking off “The Audition” because they already took care of Barry on their ballots. It is like how the pilot was so clearly the obvious choice from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel last year that the snub of its other directing contender was not a sign of weakness.

Do we know what episode Miguel Sapochnik is submitting? The Long Night or The Bells?

I honestly won’t mind at all THT taking writing and saving the TV academy from an embarrassing moment in case they reward GoT. Although I think if indeed Succession or/and Bodyguard are nominated it’s gonna be one of those 2 that wins.

Both would be deserving as well. From what I’ve seen, they are certainly the best.

Are we assuming Fleabag won’t get 2? 😉 (Cause the first and last episodes of season 2 are really deserving and I hate to have to choose between them)

All of the episodes are written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, therefore she is not able to submit more than one.

Thanks! Not familiar with Emmy rules…kind of a crap rule tbh but hey if it avoids vote splitting…

Got has no business winning any writing awards for that atrocious season (in terms of writing).

Come ceremony day, I will loose my shit if any of those 2 things happen:

    1. GoT winning Best Writing
    2. Richard Madden loosing Best Actor (especially to a nothing performance like Bateman’s or heaven forbid Harington!)

As for Best Writing, I am rooting for Jed Mercurio. If anyone is interested in the Bodyguard scripts btw, the BBC published them all here:

I hope Pose or Bodyguard can win writing.

About directing: The Long Night > The Bells.
