Im so excited for this. Im a huge fan of Emma thompson.May 23, 2019 at 11:44 am #1202906062
This week’s episode was equally good. I would say this might even win writing. Emma Thompson’s role is expanding, so I’m definitely looking forward for that.May 30, 2019 at 10:38 am #1202916599
This was another fine episode. The new technological devices bring an excitement to the storyline. Emma Thompson might be submitted in supporting as her character appears in television screens most of the time. I wonder will they devote an episode just for her character. From what I have seen so far, this should do very well with guilds and Golden Globes, eventually translating to Emmy nominations. Though, anyone but Thompson from the cast will have a hard time snagging a nomination (sans BAFTA). Just like I said in my previous post, it might win writing.May 30, 2019 at 11:07 am #1202916632
I have years and years getting three nominations at the globes (Limited series, Limited series actress for Emma thompson, and Supporting actor in a series for Russell tovey)May 30, 2019 at 11:16 am #1202916644
I think it’s a lock for a Supporting nom for Emma Thompson at the Globes, BAFTAs and Emmys (I think she will win the latter two of those nods). It will be a hard time for her to beat Meryl Streep, Patricia Arquette or Helena Bonham Carter at the Globe. I think Russell Tovey will get a Supporting Actor nomination at all three as well. However, for the BAFTAs and (to a lesser extent) the Emmys, if Jessica Hynes, Anne Reid, Emma Thompson and Ruth Madeley all submitted, one would have to submit in Best Actress in order for Y&Y to have an acting nomination, I feel that at the BAFTAs, they may fraud ET in lead.
FYC Emmys : Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials"), Russell Tovery ("Years and Years"), Helena Bonham Carter ("The Crown") & The Crown, His Dark Materials, Years and Years, Succession and The Affair in all categories. The Politician : Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bette Midler and Judith Light.
FYC Goldderby Awards : MAURA TIERNEY AND DOMINIC WEST FOR THE FINAL SEASON OF THE AFFAIRJune 13, 2019 at 12:46 pm #1202936359
“Episode 4” and “Episode 5” were really incredible in many aspects. Rory Kinnear and Russell Tovey finally had material to score nominations. This is a very realistic and provocative examination of our near future; the current heading of the global politics and technological developments. It is also now clear that Emma Thompson’s role is a supporting one and should really be placed accordingly. I doubt that anything can top this in writing. Critics in US will eat this up.June 18, 2019 at 6:10 am #1202942606
I can see a world where any of Emma Thompson, Rory Kinnear, Jessica Hynes, Anne Reid, T’Nia Miller, Ruth Madeley, Russell Tovey and Maxim Baldry score BAFTA TV nominations next year… so hard to predict – am getting the feeling (pre-Episode 6) that Kinnear and Hynes will be submitted in Leading with everyone else in Supporting…June 22, 2019 at 7:12 am #1202947912
I find it almost incredible how much the Wall Street Journal misinterpreted the tone of this series:
[Years and Years] is too close to reality to be funny, or blackly funny, or even absurdly funny. It is clever, in the worst sense of the word
Since when is it’s supposed to be funny. It’s essentially a horror show and that’s the point.June 22, 2019 at 1:23 pm #1202948163
Lucky for me I was able to watch the entire series here in France.
After watching it, all I can say is that I’m breathless. This show is only 6 episodes long but it was so hard to leave them, even for one week, and I really hope that a season 2 is on his way.
Everyone on the cast is brillant. All of them deserves nominations. The writing is, I think, the best aspect of this show. It’s really emotional and yet it scares me more that Black Mirror. The Episode 4 is for me the highlight of the show. And the work done on the soundtrack is brilliant.
Sorry if you don’t understood all of it but to be short : It made my top 3 of the best show of the year and the ending is truly beautiful.June 23, 2019 at 1:52 am #1202948442
The final episode made it feel like it wasn’t coming back, and is a one and done.
