I personally cannot wait for Staunton to finally get her dues. She has too long been written off as “Umbridge” by the casual watcher, it is time for that shit to change tf up and for the QueenTM’s skill to be recognized.
Is there any consensus on what time period the final season will cover? They have said that they won’t touch the modern royals, but IIRC each season so far has covered like 10 years, meaning that S5 and 6 would cover the ’90s and ’00s. And Blair was PM until ’07. Which is very close to “modern” William and Harry.

One thing I’ve noticed (and this isn’t deliberate at all on the casting directors) is how The Crown has been casting people Olivia Colman won TV BAFTAs over (HBC, Imelda Staunton).
Obviously they’re not deliberately casting people because Olivia Colman won BAFTAs over them but it does suggest the type of “big” British actors they want for some of these key roles so I have to ask now…
…will Sarah Lancashire get cast as Camilla?

Oh, I like Sarah Lancashire. I’ve only watched her in working class-type roles, but I’m assuming she’s done more “posh” characters at some point?
And as noted earlier, I’m also curious about the timeline for seasons five and six. Season four ends in 1990(?), and I’m assuming season 5 will include Diana’s 1997 death. If season 5 ends on her death, they could theoretically spend season 6 on the aftermath of her death and then the death of Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. William and Harry will have to be a part of Diana’s death story, but they’ll probably limit their roles.October 23, 2020 at 6:26 am #1203798110
Well I don’t know whether playing an evil Mary Poppins type nanny counts as posh but I guess you could say Lancashire has played those types of characters?
I’m thinking in terms of timeline :
Season 5 – 1990 – 1997
Season 6 – 1997 – 2002

I know she hasn’t acted since 2005 but Patricia Routledge (Talking Heads, Keeping Up Appearances) would make a great Queen Mother. It also helps that the age gap between her and Imelda is very similar to that of Queen Liz and her mother.November 9, 2020 at 3:30 pm #1203825337
I’m assuming season 5 has already been written, yes?
I’m curious because there’s a new controversy brewing about Martin Bashir’s infamous 1995 interview with Diana, which I’m guessing will be covered in season 5.
It is alleged that Bashir’s team created fake bank statements to make it look as though two senior couriers were being paid to provide information on Diana to security services. Bashir showed these statements to Diana’s brother, who then introduced Bashir to his sister…eventually leading to the interview.
I may be misunderstanding, but the whole thing sounds incredibly shady. Another article says the BBC has officially launched an investigation.November 12, 2020 at 9:54 pm #1203833279
I just re-watched Mary Poppins Returns the other day and Emily Mortimer should be cast as Cherie Blair.

The Radio Times have given their list of who should play Camilla (it includes Sarah Lancashire).
