The season (hopefully not series) finale was tonight. I have to say, I fell in love with this show from the start. I thought it was sweet and charming and wore its heart on its sleeve. I think it will get choreography nominations but that’s it. But, in the tape system, some of them would be competitive. Jane Levy for Zoey’s Extraordinary Glitch; Lauren Graham for Zoey’s Extraordinary Boss; Mary Steenburgen for Zoey’s Extraordinary Failure or Zoey’s Extraordinary Mother; Skylar Astin, Peter Gallagher, and John Clarence Stewart I don’t know as much. For guests: Bernadette Peters (guest) for Zoey’s Extraordinary Mother; Renee Elise Goldsberry for Zoey’s Extraordinary Outburst; Zak Orth for Zoey’s Extraordinary Silence.
So is anyone watching it? Or no, just me 🙂May 3, 2020 at 7:59 pm #1203461330
I just watched the season finale and actually think it would be a worthy directing nom just for the American Pie sequence alone! Jane Levy has been great in this and she really deserves a nomination. This is such a charming, unique show and I truly hope it returns for a second season. Alex Newell and Skylar Astin are extraordinary (pun intended) singers!May 3, 2020 at 8:10 pm #1203461343

Yes, that scene was wonderful and just beautifully done.May 3, 2020 at 10:45 pm #1203461587
I started watching this show thinking it was a guilty pleasure. But at this point, having not seen the finale yet, this is my second place choice for comedy series after Better Things (which honestly isn’t saying much because comedy is a wasteland). Moral of the story, this show surprising above the line ANYWHERE would be amazing.
Alex Newell is my pick for supporting actor and Levy is my pick for actress only behind Adlon.May 3, 2020 at 11:11 pm #1203461643
I will be so disappointed if NBC cancels this series. I will definitely campaign for the series and Jane Levy at the Gold Derby TV Awards.May 3, 2020 at 11:50 pm #1203461685
I was also really pleasantly surprised by every aspect of this show. Upon reading the premise I was very unsure, but it has a lot of heart and talented cast. Alex Newell is standout, Jane Levy is perfectly cast and Lauren Graham and Renee Goldsberry also very good. If I had to pick a performance I find lacking it would be Astin, who I’ve always liked before.
I also hope for a second season- every week this show has always made me feel happy and we especially need that right now.May 4, 2020 at 5:55 am #1203461921
I’m so happy to see that I’m not watching this show in a GoldDerby vacuum haha. The early reviews were fine but not spectacular and I thought it just wasn’t “cool” enough to make it. I think NBC should make a push for this at the Emmys, along with The Good Place. I think Astin has been fine with what he’s been given, he just wasn’t given the showcases Levy, Newell, Graham, and Steenburgen were. I would love to see Graham finally get her well deserved Emmy nomination. I read that the series creator based Gallagher’s character on his own father.May 4, 2020 at 6:49 am #1203461956
Ed, NBC needs to push, in this order:
1. The Good Place
2. This is Us
3. Brooklyn Nine NineMay 4, 2020 at 6:54 am #1203461962
I think Astin has done great with the material he has been given, but they could give him so much more!!! I wouldn’t mind him having a subplot unrelated to Zoey, maybe some family drama, side hobby, etc.May 4, 2020 at 5:53 pm #1203463439
I really enjoyed this show as well and hope it gets another season! Also, wish Bernadette Peters could land in Guest Actress!May 4, 2020 at 6:10 pm #1203463463
That last scene was perfection. Jane at least deserves to win the Golden Globes. Since, they love to give new shows a win.May 14, 2020 at 7:31 pm #1203482013
I binged the whole season in about a week and found it very sweet, warm and charming. Like others, I found it goofy and charming to begin with, but it ended up growing into something a little more poignant than expected. The focus on Zoey’s relationship with her father was always more interesting than anything involving her love triangle or work, and I’m interested to see what angle they would take in a potential season two. The show is also unbothered by figuring out why Zoey is having these visions, and I guess that is fine that it doesn’t get bogged down by the science of it. The funniest episode of the season was the episode where Zoey was “glitching” and singing out loud, and the show never gave a fully explained reason why that occurred, so no use in worrying about getting an answer there. I thought the finale was very well done, especially those last fifteen minutes. This is a very talented ensemble, and Levy was a great leading presence. She tackled the balance of comedy and drama really well and was a charming lead, even when Zoey continually messed up. Newell is charismatic as hell, and I love the character of Mo. I would love to see the show get a second season, though it would be carrying on without my favorite aspect of the show, the father-daughter dynamic between Levy and Gallagher. Fingers crossed!June 11, 2020 at 4:52 pm #1203528780June 11, 2020 at 5:17 pm #1203528814
