The American Repertory Theater’s previously announced production of 1776 which will be taking place in Boston next year will be leading into a Broadway revival co-produced by Roundabout Theatre Company. The production is set to play at the American Airlines Theatre in the spring 0f 2021.

Diane Paulus is definitely a very interesting choice for this show. Though it is great that she’ll be doing another revival because I don’t think she’s been as successful on new musicals.

    Thoughts?

That show needs about 10 songs added to it. Either that or just cut all of them and make it a play. It always felt sort of half-musicalized to me.

Whoever is cast as John Adams has a lot to live up to, since many people will always associate William Daniels with that role. Heck, when he played Mr. Feeny on Boy Meets World, the school where the characters go to and Feeny is the principal of is called John Adams High School!

John Adams should be Nathan Lane. That would be epic. I would also love to see Christian Borle, David Hyde Pierce, Danny Burstein, and Zachary Levi in the cast

I was thinking Brian d’Arcy James or Danny Burstein for John Adams.

Nathan Lane would probably make a great Benjamin Franklin.

Santino Fontana was great as John Adams in the Encores production in 2016, and I’d love to see him reprise the role on Broadway. I second Nathan Lane as Ben Franklin.

Danny would be up there for me as John Adams.

^Yeah, especially after Fiddler on the Roof, I’d love to see him take on another starring role on Broadway. If Bartlett Sher was doing 1776 at Lincoln Center Theater, I bet he’d be casting Danny Burstein in a heartbeat. While he obviously wouldn’t be that much of a box office draw, it shouldn’t matter since the production is set to be co-produced by a not-for-profit theatre organization, so they wouldn’t be as concerned from a commercial perspective.
