Tony-winning actress Barbara Harris has passed away.
Throughout the 1960’s, Harris was very active in the New York theatre scene. She had made her Broadway debut at the age of 26 in a musical revue titled From the Second City, for which she received her very first Tony nomination. Barbara Harris was later nominated again in 1966 for her performance in the roles of Daisy Gamble and Melinda Wells in the original production of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. The following season marked her final Broadway appearance in The Apple Tree, which won her the Tony for Lead Actress in a Musical.
Barbara Harris was also seen on the big screen in such films as A Thousand Clowns, Who is Harry Kellerman and Why is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me?, Nashville, Family Plot, Freaky Friday (1976), Peggy Sue Got Married, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.August 21, 2018 at 12:26 pm #1202613772
^Jeffrey, she actually got her first Tony nomination in 1962 for From The Second City (Barbra Streisand was nominated for I Can Get It For You Wholesale, Phyllis Newman won for Subways Are For Sleeping).
I was just thinking about her the other day. She was particularly wonderful in Nashville and Peggy Sue Got Married. She got her Oscar nomination for the 1971 film Who Is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying All These Terrible Things About Me?
There is a wonderful segment on YouTube from her performance in The Apple Tree (:August 21, 2018 at 12:27 pm #1202613774
