His contributions to the theatre world include two appearances on Broadway in 1963’s Luther and 1968’s A Day in the Life of Joe Egg, both of which resulted in Tony nominations. The legendary director/choreographer Stanley Donen has died at the age of 94.
After having started off on Broadway in the 1940’s as a performer in Pal Joey and Best Foot Forward (both directed by George Abbott), Stanley Donen went on to have a career in Hollywood first as a dancer, then as a choreographer. In 1949, he made his directorial debut with Gene Kelly with a film adaptation of the 1944 Broadway musical, On the Town. Since then, Donen got to direct more classic movie musicals such as Singin’ in the Rain, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Funny Face, The Pajama Game, and Damn Yankees. He eventually returned to Broadway in 1993 with a flop stage musical adaptation of The Red Shoes.February 23, 2019 at 7:18 am #1202786018

André Previn, who was the composer behind the 1970 Tony-winning musical, Coco, has died at the age of 89.
Previn had of course also worked a lot in film. He received 13 Oscar nominations for conducting various movie musicals such as Three Little Words, Kiss Me, Kate, It’s Always Fair Weather, Gigi*, Porgy & Bess, Bells are Ringing*, Irma la Douce*, My Fair Lady*, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Jesus Christ Superstar.
