It sucks the critically-acclaimed Yiddish version of Fiddler directed by Joel Grey is moving to an off-Broadway theatre. I really think with the very thin competition this year for revivals that it had a great chance of winning the Tony.February 18, 2019 at 8:05 pm #1202781013
I’m actually glad that it’s not moving to Broadway because we just had a revival of Fiddler on the Roof a couple years ago (which is now out on the road), and it’s just way too soon for another one. Plus, with the production being in all Yiddish, I’m not sure if it would be commercially viable enough.

What do you mean not moving uptown? It moved to stage 42 on 42nd street just not in a designated “Broadway” theatre.February 19, 2019 at 9:22 am #1202781511
He means theaters that are specifically designated as Broadway theaters. And he has a point. The last Broadway revival of Fiddler On The Roof closed at the end of 2017, barely a year ago. And I’m not sure most mainstream theatergoers or out-of-town tourists would want to see a show in a language most of them can’t understand.February 19, 2019 at 9:30 am #1202781523
