Moulin Rouge! will officially play at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre this summer from June 27-August 5. I have fears about how a stage version of Tootsie would play today. I’m not sure how much tolerance there will be for a story about a man dressing in drag to take a job away from a woman in the entertainment industry. Plus, daytime soaps are really a thing of the past so this will probably have to be set in the ’80s, meaning we may have a lot of pink and green sets and helmet hair.
