Actor/comedian Jerry Stiller, who had appeared on Broadway 15 times from 1954 all the way into 1997, has died at the age of 92.

Among his screen credits was Wilbur Turnblad in the original 1988 movie of Hairspray written & directed by John Waters. That role went on to win a Tony Award for Dick Latessa in 2003 for his performance in the stage musical adaptation. Stiller also made a cameo appearance in the 2007 movie musical adaptation as Mr. Pinky.

Yes, he was one of 7 original Broadway cast members (along with Rita Moreno and F. Murray Abraham) who got to reprise their roles in Richard Lester’s 1976 film adaptation of The Ritz.
