The 2019 Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards are around the corner. The nominees and winners are always…interesting…to say the least, given that like the People’s Choice Awards for movies, TV and music, the nominees and winners are all chosen via online voting by fans. If you wish to nominate any shows or people, the link is below. You have until 11:59 P.M. EST on Sunday, May 5. to send in your ballots. https://www.broadway.com/buzz/195614/you-pick-the-nominees-choose-your-favorites-for-the-2019-broadwaycom-audience-choice-awards/

These are what Broadway.com readers voted as the top 5 biggest Tony snubs this year. It’ll be interesting to see if any of them get nominated and even win at these awards. https://www.broadway.com/buzz/195677/the-results-are-in-these-2019-tony-snubs-upset-fans-the-most/

Since voting closes tomorrow, I’m going to try and predict the winners of these awards for the very first time. I’ve noticed trends to winners over the years: they often tend to be celebrities who are known a lot for film and television, or shows that tend to have a huge fan following on social media. So taking those trends into mind, here’s who I think will be chosen as the winners:

    Be More Chill

    Favorite New Play
    To Kill a Mockingbird

    Favorite Musical Revival
    Oklahoma!

    Favorite Play Revival

Favorite Leading Actor in a Musical
    Will Roland-Be More Chill

Favorite Leading Actress in a Musical
    Beth Leavel-The Prom

Favorite Leading Actor in a Play
    Bryan Cranston-Network

Favorite Leading Actress in a Play
    Annette Bening-All My Sons

Favorite Featured Actor in a Musical
    George Salazar-Be More Chill

Favorite Featured Actress in a Musical
    Stephanie Hsu-Be More Chill

Favorite Featured Actor in a Play
Andrew Rannells-The Boys in the Band

Favorite Featured Actress in a Play
    Celia Keenan-Bolger-To Kill a Mockingbird

    Favorite Funny Performance
    Beth Leavel-The Prom

    Favorite Diva Performance
    Stephanie J. Block-The Cher Show

These “awards” really should be discontinued as an embarrassment. I would hate for anyone who didn’t know better to be fooled into buying a ticket based on thinking these were in any way legitimate.

By my count, I only correctly predicted 8 out of 22 categories, or 36.3%.

    Probably because you’re not 12. 🙂

Given the trends I’ve seen throughout these “awards” these last few years, I thought I had gained enough insight into the tastes of the type of people who vote for this, which I assume are primarily people aged 14-25.
