I’m looking forward to that. Also, I wonder when the Cort will be done with renovations and they finally build on the lot next door. Also I look forward to the Palace reopening.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 11, 2021 at 7:56 am #1204108119In a recent interview with NBC New York, Broadway League President Charlotte St. Martin said that as of now, she thinks Broadway could come back sometime early this fall. She also thinks that some of the longer-running shows may be first to come back “because a lot of the cast has muscle memory.”

If Broadway truly won’t open until the fall, then perhaps the Tonys should just be relegated to a virtual ceremony sooner rather than later this spring, given that voting is going to close soon. I know that may not be what they want to do, but it seems like the most practical thing at this point. I think the nominees have waited more than long enough to find out if they’ve won or not by this point.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 12, 2021 at 4:25 am #1204111286They have previously stated they are going to announce the Tony winners in conjunction with the reopening of Broadway as part of a media blitz. Why waste the attention it would get by announcing them now when no one can see a show?
ReplyCopy URLMarch 12, 2021 at 9:12 am #1204112667Also it will take a while for some shows to reopen because being quarantined had made some casts rusty, so they’ll have to refamiliarize themselves with performing in person.
Also, how do you think #freeBritney will impact Once Upon a One More Time?

While I sympathize with Britney Spears’ real-life plight, this musical should NOT be happening. I said it before and I’ll say it again, Britney Spears’ songs will NOT translate well to Broadway or any other stage. I’m totally fine with creating a feminist princess musical that rewrites fairy tale tropes, but why use Britney Spears’ songs?! They’re just pop fluff; there’s nothing feminist about them. Use songs by somebody like Sarah McLachlan or Sheryl Crow, because they at least write their own music and play instruments. Therefore, their songs are much better and hold up better over time.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 14, 2021 at 12:11 pm #1204120564I would have to agree, and Britney wasn’t that talented anyway. Her vocal range wasn’t deep and as someone I knew put it, she sounded like an oversexed robot.

ReplyCopy URLMarch 22, 2021 at 6:20 pm #1204151946Sounds good. I’ve seen Company in college (I went to a small liberal arts college, this was their first musical in years and I didn’t get cast) and I saw the John Doyle version and Neil Patrick Harris concert on PBS, I’m curious as to how the gender swap works.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 22, 2021 at 8:15 pm #1204152078Can’t wait to see Patti LuPone get that third Tony she probably would’ve easily won last year had this pandemic never existed.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 22, 2021 at 8:20 pm #1204152085^Why must you bring up the possibility of Patti LuPone winning a third Tony for Company every chance you get?
ReplyCopy URLMarch 22, 2021 at 8:22 pm #1204152087Cause that was going to be my main reason for watching the 2020 Tonys had they not been canceled.
