I first saw ITW at New York City Center, I first saw the Broadway production last night. Julia Lester’s no longer Little Red, the replacement Katy Geraghty did a great job.

The producers of KPOP are also demanding that he and the New York Times apologize. https://www.playbill.com/article/kpop-producers-respond-to-new-york-times-review-requesting-apology-from-jesse-green
ReplyCopy URLDecember 4, 2022 at 7:41 am #1205177493I suppose the backlash against Jesse Green will work in KPOP‘s favor. I saw the show last night, and, well, if it’s not the Best Musical it’s the best KPOP concert on Broadway. Enjoyable, if style over substance.

December 4, 2022 at 7:35 pm #1205178114I didn’t expect A Beautiful Noise to cause people to make beautiful noise. Just another oldies concert. That and Almost Famous are not likely to get a Best Musical nod.
Also, how was Ain’t No Mo’?
ReplyCopy URLDecember 4, 2022 at 8:11 pm #1205178153Oddly enough, Did They Like It? still doesn’t have a page up for that show yet. Although BroadwayWorld does have the reviews listed.

December 5, 2022 at 10:05 am #1205178979Fat Ham, with its Pulitzer, could be a contender for Best Play. It’s nice that artists of color have a shot.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 6, 2022 at 9:20 am #1205180114Now that Into the Woods is touring, perhaps it will perform at the Tonys and still has a shot at Best Revival of a Musical, unless Sweeney Todd slashes its chance. In any case, Sondheim would be pleased his work is still so well-received. Perhaps Sweeney will be dedicated to Angela Lansbury, as will City Center’s Dear World.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 6, 2022 at 9:48 am #1205180232Don’t forget Camelot. One must never doubt Bartlett Sher when it comes to his musical revivals.

https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Video-Full-Cast-Announced-For-BAD-CINDERELLA-in-REAL-HOUSEWIVES-Inspired-Video-20221207Interesting how two of the principals from the opening night cast of the current 1776 revival (Crystal Lucas-Perry and Carolee Carmello) are in two Broadway shows this season.

ReplyCopy URLDecember 8, 2022 at 5:27 pm #1205184389Seeing reviews with bylines like “the AARP crowd will love it” and commenting that bio-musicals focus on performers “old enough to have met Ed Sullivan” come off as ageist:

https://www.theatermania.com/broadway/reviews/review-neil-diamond-musical-a-beautiful-noise_94623.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=headlineAlso it mentions that in the Neil Diamond musical Neil was discovered by Ellie Greenwich. Do you think audiences would prefer a revival of Leader of the Pack?
ReplyCopy URLDecember 9, 2022 at 3:28 am #1205184755For the small slate of play revivals we currently have this season, the ones we’ve gotten so far have been mostly well received as Ohio State Murders can now be added to that list.
