Also Between Riverside and Crazy is considered a revival, though if it were a new play it would have a shot at Best Play, given its Pulitzer pedigree.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 9, 2022 at 5:50 pm #1205185895Or could it be similar to Skeleton Crew last year? Despite that debuting on the main stem a few years after its Off-Broadway premiere, it still wasn’t eligible as a revival. Which I’m guessing was probably due to both incarnations having a lot of the same creative team.

You think they would award a show that closes three weeks after its opening? I don’t think so. You think they would pick it over Leopoldstadt, which is a huge hit – on the level of a musical? I don’t think so. Or Cost of Living, which was also critically acclaimed and won the Pulitzer. It’s out. It has no chance. Forget about it.

It should really be in this thread since we’re talking about its Tony chances.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 11, 2022 at 12:07 pm #1205188069I do expect Cost of Living, Fat Ham, Leopoldstadt and The Thanksgiving Play to be four of the five Best Play nominees. I’m not sure about the fifth slot, I’ll have to see how Prima Facie and Summer, 1976 fare.

Very mixed. Not as good as & Juliet and not even close to Kimberly Akimbo. It will be nominated, but KA has the win.

All I have to say is WOW. One person can really turnaround a show. I went in there with the bad reviews (as a show) in my head, but I loved the whole thing. I really think the reviews would have been different if Lea was in it from the beginning. She was born to play Fanny Brice.

ReplyCopy URLDecember 15, 2022 at 7:05 pm #1205197036I just saw Ain’t No Mo’ and it was indeed provocative, it’s strictly for those with open minds. I’m glad it got extended, it deserves to live on.
