Sound like fun. Although Peter Pan already went wrong with its depiction of Indigenous Americans.

The final performance is now taking place on January 15th.
https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/OHIO-STATE-MURDERS-to-Play-Final-Performance-on-Broadway-This-Month-20230105Between this and Frankie & Johnny not doing well, it’s clear that audiences prefer to see Audra McDonald in a musical (or a play with music like Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill).

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 6, 2023 at 9:33 pm #1205224772I wasn’t predicting Room. I just saw & Juliet, and it was indeed fun. It could receive a Best Musical nod, even though it’s not likely to win, and I do see it up for Best Costumes and Scenic Design, as well as Betsy Wolfe up for Best Actress.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2023 at 3:34 am #1205225056I haven’t seen & Juliet, but from what I’ve heard, Lorna Courtney is lead while Betsy Wolfe is featured.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2023 at 8:20 am #1205225258Yes Juliet is the lead but Anne Hathaway is a major part.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2023 at 9:07 am #1205225310Hopefully, the administration committee will make announcements regarding that sometime soon. I’m sure the producers would appreciate having Courtney and Wolfe competing in separate categories so that they would at least have equal shots at getting nominated.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2023 at 9:53 am #1205225404I hope they make some announcements soon so we can finally put to rest over some big questions like whether or not Between Riverside And Crazy counts as an original play or a revival, given that it’s not that old of a play.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2023 at 11:19 am #1205225718Traditionally you were only a lead if your name was featured above the title. That’s why Yul Brynner for The King and I and Dick Van Dyke in Bye Bye Birdie only won in supporting categories even though they were pretty much leads, and William Daniels got a Best Supporting Actor nomination for 1776 despite being the lead and thus refused it. Though Courtney and Wolfe probably won’t beat Victoria Clark and Bonnie Milligan, respectively.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2023 at 3:04 pm #1205226270I’m aware of all that. Although in recent years, the administration committee decides whether or not those billed above the title are actual leads. Same with those billed below the title. While Courtney and Wolfe may not win over Clark and Milligan, getting nominated in the first place would be good enough prizes for them.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 10, 2023 at 6:29 am #1205230215Since there are now six Broadway musical revivals in contention this season, the category of Best Revival of a Musical will have four nomination slots.

January 10, 2023 at 6:57 am #1205230270And three those four slots will likely go to Into the Woods, Parade and Sweeney Todd. Two Sondheim shows and two City Center transfers. Also, since Hal Prince co-conceived Parade his reign on Broadway will extend a few months after Phantom closes, plus Parade‘s run would be the longest of a Jason Robert Brown show.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 10, 2023 at 8:02 am #1205230356As much as I don’t like making bets on contenders that are sights unseen (especially as evidenced by films from respected directors like Babylon and The Son disappointing this Oscar season), here’s what I think the nominees for Best Musical Revival will be right now:
Camelot
Into the Woods
Parade
Sweeney ToddGiven all the bad reviews and lack of buzz surrounding 1776 during its run, I think that’s out of the running. Unless Dancin’ is greatly improved from its pre-Broadway run, I’ll be shocked if that gets nominated. Camelot and Sweeney Todd both have first class creative teams behind them. I imagine that they’ll at least be respected.
