What do you think could happen in this strange year?

I keep reading consistent praise for the book of Girl From the North Country. And A Strange Loop is starting to build that typical front-runner backlash that it’s over-praised. Is it possible GFtNC could pull off the upset over the Pulitzer Prize winner? GFtNC is the only nominee for book I haven’t seen, so I’m not sure how strong it is. I confess to being lukewarm on ASL overall, though I thought the cast was superb and the score had a lot of nice moments.

While not impossible, I think after having dealt with nothing but jukebox musicals last year, voters are probably gonna want to champion something original more. Let’s hope the New York Times’ Tony voter survey is helpful in clarifying this race.

I expected GFTNC to win Best Book before the pandemic. It might have won if the pandemic hadn’t happened.
