So in light of today’s events (I.e., the Outer Critics Circle Nominations, what do we think the odds are of Christy Altomare earning a nomination for Best Leading Actress at the Tony’s above Phillipa Soo or Eva Noblezada? I know Anastasia reviews were so-so but it just led OCC nominations and Christy got nominated over Soo, Noblezada, and Laura Osnes.April 25, 2017 at 9:51 am #1202075986
The Outer Critics Circle has always had some strange tastes. Last year, American Psycho received 8 nominations, and we all saw how it turned out at the Tonys. In 2008, Young Frankenstein won the Outstanding New Broadway Musical award in a tie with Xanadu.April 25, 2017 at 9:58 am #1202075996
As for who I have getting nominated, Christine Ebersole, Patti LuPone, and Bette Midler are the three locks to me. I have Denee Benton getting in based on the strength of The Great Comet. As for the 5th slot, you might as well throw a dart on the board for that one.
I currently have Eva Noblezada taking it based on the strength of her role as Kim. She also has a great narrative to how she got the role. While the current revival of Miss Saigon did earn such a mixed critical response, the original production did as well.April 25, 2017 at 11:14 am #1202076067
I had Phillipa Soo due to her stellar reputation and the fact that most critics reviewed her fairly, but so far the Drama League and OCC have completely overlooked her.April 25, 2017 at 5:51 pm #1202076369This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.April 25, 2017 at 6:19 pm #1202076382
I’m not counting out Barrett Doss in this. Her performance glows and she has the audience in her pocket from her first scene.
ETA: Though based on the rulings, she’ll be in Featured.April 27, 2017 at 11:50 pm #1202078461
Christy Altomare is becoming more and more of a contender for this. It’s looking like she has the potential to elbow out Phillipa Soo.April 28, 2017 at 3:38 am #1202078608
At the moment I have Christy Altamore, Christine Ebersole, Patti LuPone, Bette Midler and Laura Osnes. I took out Denee Benton and feel uncertain about it.April 28, 2017 at 8:27 am #1202078919
I think Denée will certainly get in, if nothing else for riding Natasha’a coat tails. As near I can see the fifth nominee will be between Phillipa Soo and Christy Altomare. The buzz has all but died for Eva Noblezada, and I don’t see Laura Osnes getting nominated for this one.April 28, 2017 at 8:51 am #1202078953This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.April 28, 2017 at 2:30 pm #1202079244
I think Bette Midler has this category sewn up.April 28, 2017 at 3:10 pm #1202079317
