According to a recent casting notice, a new musical based on the classic cartoon character, Betty Boop, is in the works. Legendary songwriter/music producer David Foster is composing the score which will have lyrics by Susan Birkenhead, a two-time Tony nominee for Working and Jelly’s Last Jam. Bob Martin, who’s one of the Tony-winning creators of The Drowsy Chaperone, is writing the book. Jerry Mitchell, a two-time Tony winner for the 2005 revival of La Cage aux Folles and Kinky Boots, is set to direct and choreograph.

Interestingly enough, I remember hearing about a prior attempt from over 10 years ago. At the time, I randomly picked Laura Benanti for the title role.
