Dave Malloy’s new musical, Octet, has once again extended its run at Off-Broadway’s Signature Theatre. The final performance will now take place on June 23rd.
If this show does well with critics, I wonder if it could move to Broadway.May 13, 2019 at 1:08 pm #1202892427
Judging by the last couple of weeks’ grosses, three shows seem to have benefited the most from Tony nominations: Hadestown, Tootsie, and Ain’t Too Proud. Hadestown is doing SRO business (with an average ticket price over $147) and Ain’t Too Proud nearly so. Tootsie has steadily climbed and earned over $1.4 million last week. On the flip side, Gary has not seen any spike from its seven nods and earned $307,000 last week with a paltry $55 average ticket, though attendance sits at 90%. Beetlejuice fared a little better, with $856,000, but 80% attendance and an $89 average ticket aren’t really great numbers for a Best Musical nominee. The show that seems to have suffered most from being snubbed is Be More Chill, which has steadily fallen to 66% attendance and a dangerously-low $407,000 gross.May 13, 2019 at 1:27 pm #1202892455

Have you seen it yet? I’d be curious to hear your thoughts. I saw it but don’t know if it’s Broadway type of material. The music is glorious with complex harmonies and terrific lyrics. I just don’t know if people will pay Broadway prices for that show.May 13, 2019 at 1:40 pm #1202892477
I have not seen it.
