Come From Away has just recouped its Broadway investment…

So while half of this year’s Best Musical nominees sadly lost a lot of money (Groundhog Day and The Great Comet), the other half turned out to be very profitable (Come From Away and Dear Evan Hansen).

In the last week before the holiday season starts on Broadway, it looks like Meteor Shower will be a hit for its limited run, as it makes it into the million dollar club in previews, with an average ticket of $162.91. The Band’s Visit continues strong after its glowing reviews, also grossing over $1 million.

In previews, Once on this Island has high attendance, but with a $79 average ticket, there’s probably a little papering going on. The Parisian Woman looks strong with a $115 average ticket. Home for the Holidays, not so much–it took in $51,300 for five previews, with an average ticket of $14.71! That’s less than a movie in some places, folks. And Spongebob looks all wet as well, with an average ticket of $61.23 and a gross of $575,000 and no reason to expect glowing reviews. That’s not sufficient to cover the running costs of a full-scale musical, so it will probably try to grab some family bucks during the holidays and be gone in the winter to take to the tour/regional route.

It will be interesting to see the numbers for Dear Evan Hansen next week, since Ben Platt finished his legendary, Tony-winning run on Sunday.
