With film adaptations of The Prom and Tick, Tick…Boom! in the works at Netflix, I’ve been thinking about other Broadway musicals that I could see getting movies through the streaming service. The best ones I was able to come up with are…

    Company
    Follies
    Fun Home
    The Light in the Piazza
    Next to Normal
    Parade
    Ragtime
    The Secret Garden
    Spring Awakening
Sunday in the Park with George

What do you think? Are there any Broadway musicals you would like to see get the Netflix treatment?

I don’t want any of these basic jukebox musicals getting this kind of treatment. Leave that for the studios that are desperate for brand recognition.

Ain’t Too Proud on Netflix could be incredible if they got the original cast

Yeah, I think Ain’t Too Proud would more likely get a wide theatrical release. Especially given the successes of recent musician biopics like Straight Outta Compton, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Rocketman. As for American Idiot, it was announced almost three years ago that HBO was working on a film adaptation. Though I could see Netflix picking it up.
