A new stage musical about the life of legendary magician Harry Houdini is in the works. No writing team has been revealed yet, but director Federico Bellone recently held a cross continental virtual developmental reading starring Ramin Karimloo as the title character and Laura Osnes as Bess Houdini. I’m not sure if this project is in any way, shape, or form related to the Harry Houdini musical that was previously in development with Hugh Jackman set to star.

    Thoughts?

I really would LOVE to see James Marsden as Houdini in something so maybe this?

I could definitely see this offering some interesting staging opportunities and a good role for the lead.

Scott Sanders was the producer behind the Houdini musical that Jackman dropped out of, with a score from Stephen Schwartz. This is yet another musical about the famed musician (previously titled “The Impossible Man” so I assume the Schwartz show is officially dead and this new show was able to snatch its simpler, better title). Hopefully it will see the light of day.

Even though producers Neil Meron and (the now deceased) Craig Zadan both said in their audio commentary for the 2007 Hairspray movie that they think there’s a Broadway musical in James Marsden’s future, I’m not sure if he’s willing to sign up to do one eight times a week for like a year.

This is going to sound mean but: he is dead on westworld and if they aren’t going to use him time to ride off into the sunset from there lol.
