MsMojo just posted a list of the top 10 best Broadway revivals in history, according to them:

    1. Chicago (1996)
    2. Cabaret (1998)
    3. Guys And Dolls (1992)
    4. Annie Get Your Gun (1999)
    5. Anything Goes (2011)
    6. Les Miserables (2014)
    7. Gypsy (2008)
    8. Once On This Island (2017)
    9. Falsettos (2016)
    10. South Pacific (2008)

    Honorable Mentions:
    West Side Story (2009)
    42nd Street (2001)
    Pippin (2013)

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Pippin and Hair make my top ten. I’d take Annie Get Your Gun off and Once on This Island or Falsettos. And Cabaret is my number one.</p>

This list doesn’t go far back enough.  What about the 1971 revival of No, No, Nanette?  Or the 1983 revival of On Your Toes?  Or the 1987 Anything Goes?

There is indeed a lot of recency bias on the list, as shown by including the 2016 Falsettos and the 2014 Les Mis (?!) over the 1994 Carousel and the 1987 Anything Goes. Also, the 1973 Harold Prince “revisal” of Candide probably saved that score from semi-obscurity.

The list also could’ve included The Color Purple (2015), Hair (2009), Hello, Dolly! (2017), The King & I (2015), Show Boat (1995), and Sweeney Todd (2005).

By the way, I actually am planning to do some polls after this year’s Tony Awards asking people what their favorite winners are from this past decade. They’ll each be separate for the following categories: Best Musical, Best Play, Best Revival of a Musical, Best Revival of a Play, Best Lead Actor in a Musical, Best Lead Actress in a Musical, Best Lead Actor in a Play, Best Lead Actress in a Play, Best Featured Actor in a Musical, Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Play, and Best Featured Actress in a Play.

Not to mention the 1974 Gypsy revival that starred Angela Lansbury.

Plus what about the 1986 revival of Sweet Charity that brought the show a new audience?
