Another day, another announcement of a screen-to-stage musical adaptation. This time, it’ll be of John G. Avildsen’s 1984 Academy Award nominated film, The Karate Kid. The franchise itself has already spawned three sequels, a short-lived 1989 animated series, a 2010 remake, and a YouTube Premium series that is still going on. Robert Mark Kamen, who was the screenwriter behind the original film, will be writing the book with a score by Drew Gasparini. The project will be directed by renowned Japanese director Amon Miyamoto and choreographed by MTV VMA nominees Keone and Mari Madrid.

This is one film property I can actually see being very viable as a stage musical. Though when the composer has to list a Super Bowl ad as a major credit, I begin to have doubts.
