Just like many of the people on this website, I am a giant theatre nerd. After looking at some of the decade awards for film and television, it got me thinking as to why there are no yearly or decade awards for theatre on GoldDerby. It would be really interesting to put the 2010-2019 ceremonies together because some major juggernauts (Hamilton, The Band’s Visit, Hadestown, Once, Fun Home, etc.) have come out in the 2010’s. I’ll list some nominees and winners I would pick from these past 10 years, and if this catches enough momentum, maybe GoldDerby will implement this in the future!

Theatre is a very limiting art form. Not everyone can afford a trip to New York City, let alone tickets to a Broadway show.

If such awards did exist, I have a few predictions about who would win. Hamilton would probably win Best Musical Of The Decade, Ben Platt would probably win Best Actor In A Musical Of The Decade for Dear Evan Hansen, and Cynthia Erivo would probably win Best Actress In A Musical Of The Decade for The Color Purple.
