Following the success she’s had with Kinky Boots, Cyndi Lauper is currently working on her next Broadway musical, which is an adaptation of Mike Nichols’ beloved 1988 romantic comedy, Working Girl. Television writer, producer, showrunner, and playwright Bridget Carpenter will be writing the book while Christopher Ashley, who won a Tony Award in 2017 for Come From Away, will direct. An out-of-town tryout is planned for the 2021-22 theater season ahead of its eventual goal of Broadway. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/broadway-bound-working-girl-locks-director-new-writer-1243261
They’ve already replaced the book writer, which gives me pause, but I think this could be good material for a musical. Hopefully Ashley will go more Come From Away than Escape to Margaritaville with it. Wonder if they will incorporate Carly Simon’s Oscar-winning “Let the River Run” into the score?
