In all cases a show could not win without a nominated actress. In all but one they required a nominated actor as well.

Five of the shows have predominantly British casts.

GoT not getting an actress win is ???? Sometimes I wonder if the strongest actress wasn’t who we thought.

In retrospect, it’s wild that AMC had more shows win Series, and Showtime had won Series as much as HBO did until 2015.

A general, if obvious, observation is how frequently the winners repeat, even if they skip a year, and even if the show’s quality drops (like Game of Thrones, and arguably Mad Men). Seems to bode well for Succession this year, in addition to all the other reasons – not saying Succession’s quality has necessarily dropped, but I’ve seen it argued. I think it was amazing this year.

The Americans never winning especially for the last season is so disappointing.. Game of Thrones really didn’t need all those wins.

Homeland was such an inspiring win, to go against giving it to Mad Men yet again. Danes gave THE perfomance of the decade. People didn’t predict Homeland to win which is a bit strange in retrospect because it won Casting and Editing which even with the old system was a strong combo.

I think one thing I’ve noticed in this category over the years is that it’s not a susceptible to what the buzziest show on the ground is (which comedy series has been since Fleabag won). When The Handmaid’s Tale, Succession and The Crown they were the most buzzed about and acclaimed shows in contention. Game of Thrones for example wasn’t when it was up against the final season of The Americans.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
