So we all agree that TQG was just more popular than The Crown, right? I think we’re basically all suggesting that.
Yep! That’s what I was trying to get at (I guess we just had a miscommunication haha – which is fine as it’s easy for that to happen on the internet).
WandaVision completely under-performed. Having seen what the show submitted for title design I can understand that loss but its makeup loss to The Queen’s Gambit was inexcusable. Did voters think heavy makeup was applied to ATJ lol 💀💀💀?

September 11, 2021 at 8:27 pm #1204452954The predictions for “WandaVision” in Limited Series was always baffling to me. I never saw a path for it, and now even more so.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 11, 2021 at 8:30 pm #1204452960I think what really confused us about WandaVision and I May Destroy You was that they performed so well in nominations so we thought they might be possible upsets but really The Queen’s Gambit was too strong. It did after all beat both at DGA and SAG.

September 11, 2021 at 8:32 pm #1204452964I think Michaela might be in danger in writing. 😐😐 She losing to TQG would be…
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 11, 2021 at 8:33 pm #1204452966Anyone else wondering if Ted Lasso can directing now? I know it’s rare for shows with 3 nominations to win but TFA seems like a weak front runner and Hacks I have no idea what to do because it always felt like the praise for that show was based more on the writing..

I look at a lot of external sources and this is almost certainly objectively true if we consider the voting body is largely American. The Crown is a big hit globally but TQG likely moreso in the US.
Notably demographics wise it seems to have been far more popular with men which is probably even more relevant in crafts/techs where we would likely have to concede many of those voting bodies are heavily skewed that way.

… vile and disgusting.

I’m going with Hacks. I agree that The Flight Attendant seems weak (partially because it also feels like a weak series contender) but Hacks only has one nominee in directing whilst it had three in editing.
Hacks‘ writing does have more praise but wasn’t that the same case for Schitt’s Creek? Fleabag? Unorthodox?

I just find the chances of Hacks winning actress, directing and potentially writing and still losing series unlikely though Ted Lasso seems more probable imo.. especially after that editing (and future casting) win.

In terms of Netflix metrics anyway, TQG was considerably more popular, both in the U.S. and globally.

This reminds me of the most recent Oscars when people were wondering how Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom could possibly win 3-4 awards, and in hindsight the answer was obvious: it just ended up not winning that many. Maybe Hacks will be the same.
