I think this is very evident. So many under the radar yet highly deserving shows are not getting nominated, and the acting categories are filled with whoever is in a series nominee regardless of their performance or size of role.

I mean, you may like the wins or not, but at least there were inspiring choices that’d never win (I think) in the current system, as none of them were in a series nominee: Merritt Wever, Bobby Cannavalle, Paul McCrane, Loretta Devine, Martha Plimpton.

I think streaming has greatly expanded the television landscape but more potential exposure to it ironically made fewer shows getting recognized due to limitless amount of options out there. That’s why a singular praised performance in a show that is not an overall contender is doomed.

The In Memoriam continues to leave people out again. Jean Smart’s husband Richard Gilliland was on Designing Women and other shows was left out.

he was shown in the memoriam

I thought Cedric The Entertainer was hit or miss as the host, but I loved his jab at Nicki Minaj and her anti-vaccine views. Seriously people, get yourselves vaccinated already if you haven’t done so. Anyway, the winners and speeches helped make a great show. I loved how many of the winners were so enthusiastic, from Hannah Waddingham to Kate Winslet to Olivia Colman. Olivia Colman now is in unique company with Helen Mirren as both of them have each won an Oscar and and Emmy, and both of them for playing real-life English queens.

I thought the musical performance of the In Memoriam was lovely, but I hated how they didn’t zoom in on the screen so that we could see the full picture of those who died. At least the Oscars In Memoriam did do that.

As already pointed out, he was in the In Memoriam. You may have missed it because his face was on the side of a submarine – presumably a reference to what I assume was his first major role, on Operation Petticoat.

Dolly Parton was announced as a presenter. Wonder why she wasn’t there.
