ASC recognising excellence with that win.

ReplyCopy URLMarch 6, 2023 at 3:49 am #1205334226Devastated for Better Call Saul but I’m glad Severance won nonetheless (and not only just because I predicted it lol). Of course one can question whether it (or whichever of the other drama nominees this year) would have won if The White Lotus was competing in drama like it is at the Emmys or if Succession was here but it’s nice to see it also manage to take new series over The Bear and Abbott too. Promising for its chances next season with Succession ending this cycle and the field opening up a bit.
Maisel winning ASC is also a nice win (especially seeing “How Do You Get to Carnegie Hall?” should have won the Emmy too). The guild usually gravitates towards their veterans, sometimes female cinematographers so it was really between it, the “Lord of the Tides” episode of House of the Dragon and Westworld and one of them faced stronger vote-splitting and the other was just not happening. Kind of annoyed I didn’t go with Barry in half hour (I went with the “Andrew Wyeth” episode of Atlanta) but glad it won nonetheless because Carl Herse’s cinematography this season was some of the best I’ve ever seen on television.
