Those nominations only go to confirm that It’s a SinTime and Help seem to have a lot of passion and are the most visible British non scripted comedy contenders of this year.

The show was quite rubbish but it would be great to see Anita Dobson nominated for “The Long Call”

    AdeleAudience

She got a nom for Adele at the BBC.

If she’s ‘hosting’ it herself then she could even contend for Entertainment Performance.

Doesn’t Emma Sidi getting a nomination look like a Wood/Mackey situation?

Doesn’t Emma Sidi getting a nomination look like a Wood/Mackey situation?

It’s definitely a possibility. Sidi does have a tape friendly performance and is the exact type of breakthrough performance we tend to see over here.

However she needs to get through the membership stage of voting to be seen by the jury and with the rule change not only expanding the scope of performances eligible but of those who can vote in the membership stage of voting (previously only British members of the academy could vote in the acting categories, now American ones can as well), I’m not as confident as I once was in Sidi making it to the jury stage.

I definitely think Matafeo can go all the way because of how well auteurs do here and because she’s arguably got a tonne of buzz (not that it necessarily means she will get in with the jury but it should help her get past the membership stage of voting).

I’ve been thinking is there anything aside from It’s a Sin or Time that can win mini-series? I was concerned both might be overshadowed by bigger passion picks as we’ve seen happen here in the past but it’s November and that doesn’t seem to have happened yet. There’s an argument that the former has more buzz than some shows airing now with how its actors keep being touted to play the next doctor in the British tabloids lol.

I think Landscapers is the last serious threat for a spot in that lineup. However, I still expect It’s a Sin to walk away with this category.

Will this be the year that Channel 4 beats the Beeb? Bar Series they have serious contenders in pretty much every category and I’d say front runners in mini series / single drama / comedy / actress / supporting actress / supporting actor (plus writing and directing if we are counting craft).

Heartbreaking that this might be the last year of C4 as we know it.
