Writers Guild nominations:

Best Long Form TV Drama
“Adult Material” by Lucy Kirkwood
“I Hate Suzie” by Lucy Prebble
“It’s A Sin” by Russell T Davies

Best Short Form TV Drama
“BBW” by Yolande Mercy
“Elizabeth is Missing” by Andrea Gibb
“Time” by Jimmy McGovern

Best Long Running TV Series
“Doctors,” Series 21, Episode 81, “The Joe Pasquale Problem” by Stephen Keyworth
“Holby City,” Series 21, Episode 50, “Kintsugi” by Martin Jameson
“River City,” Series 21, Episode 28 by Jillian Mannion

Best TV Situation Comedy
“Feel Good” by Mae Martin and Joe Hampson
“Frayed” by Sarah Kendall
“This Way Up,” Series 2, Episode 4 by Aisling Bea

They tend to be very reliable in telling us which comedies are in contention so between this and how well its been doing with both British and American critics groups it feels more and more clear that This Way Up is getting in somewhere. The question though is where? More “dramatic” shows don’t tend to play well with the scripted comedy series jury. Maybe Aisling Bea gets in for writing and/or female performance? She does seem to have a lot of individual industry buzz and support right now.

I know! It feels like it came out a million years ago (*insert it’s been 84 years gif*) hehe.

Their eligibility seems to run from November to November so my guess is considering they didn’t have a ceremony in 2021 that they’ve extended the eligibility requirements and shows that were released from November 2019 to November 2021 are eligible. In a way I’m kind of shocked by that because it feels quite unheard of with an awards groups but it’s something that I’ve seen with many regional film festivals this year. Not only have they extended requirements that usually run from January to December in one year to include films produced and shot before the pandemic but they’ve also been making so many extensions to deadlines and requirements so productions affected by Covid can submit. Which is kind of annoying as a creative when you keep getting emails from FilmFreeway being told that a deadline or requirement has changed after having to stress over making the prior deadline haha.

It’s interesting the WGB have snubbed both I May Destroy You and Small Axe although I guess with how stiff the competition was and how many award both won at the BAFTAs (and in I May Destroy You‘s case Emmys) that they’re deliberate snubs to recognise shows like I Hate Suzie and Adult Material.

Maybe Line of Duty will get nominated for drama series after all…

Last night’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here is likely to feature on the Must See Moment list with Ant & Dec’s ‘Evening Prime Minister…for now’ going viral and perfectly summing the anger of the nation.

I don’t think it’s dead in the water like most on here do. I can’t see it doing stellar with a jury though.

I can see Anna Maxwell-Martin get nominated because there’s enough passion there but I don’t think any of the other actors have much of a chance.

I guess I probably should slot it into my drama series predictions considering how there’s pretty much nothing that feels strong enough aside from Unforgotten and maybe Vigil.

Is Help going to be eligible or aired in the US for TV Movie? Does anyone know?

I saw in Twitter that Help will premiere on Acorn TV (streaming service in the US) and it will be on Monday, January 31.

Help and The Beatles: Get Back are way too low on that list. Easily Top 10 for me (heck, even top 3!).

I’m very interested to see what shows up in international series. Has there ever not been a year where a show no one has ever considered suddenly popped up here?

Ineligible.

Is to because it hasn’t aired in UK or something else?

It hasn’t aired here yet (and probably won’t until 2022).

Which is so bizarre, considering the majority of HBO’s shows immediately get funnelled to Sky in the UK and Hacks is also co-produced by Sky sister-company NBCUniversal.

Oscars FYC:

"Lamb" – International Feature and all categories

"Summer of Soul" – Picture, Film Editing and Documentary Feature

“The Green Knight” – in all categories
