Thread to discuss all of the British TV on offer in 2022, in the one place.
Hoping this will help control too many threads being made (particularly for the lesser seen UK shows).
All discussions of the TV BAFTAs being held later this year, for shows which aired in 2021, can be discussed on the thread already published for that.
We’ve already had a slew of acclaimed and heavily discussed shows in the four days of the year so far…
Anne
Four Lives
The Touristand with many more to come including Peaky Blinders, Happy Valley, This Is Going To Hurt, Conversations with Friends and many more. Time to sound off on the best of British telly 2022!

Making my way through this. I know that part of Australia really well.
I like Dornan in this. McDonald’s character is pretty sympathetic.
Easy watch and not too deep.

January 5, 2022 at 3:00 am #1204697860Well, one week into 2022 and my (very old!) prediction about Maxine Peake being a BAFTA contender for Anne is looking very good right now.
Tough series to watch in general, but she is fantastic throughout.
January 7, 2022 at 3:16 am #1204702197There seems to be a lot of buzz with Anne especially with the Hillsborough case back in the news.
I haven’t seen the show but considering the reception the show and Peake’s performance have gotten and how well we’ve seen Hillsborough dramas play with the jury, I think it’s safe to say Peake is an early frontrunner.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I saw The Guardian gave it five stars (the only five stars it’s given to any of the new series released this week).

Yep, but that’s Guardian Australia not UK which in this case probably makes a difference.

I never know which edition I’m reading and which articles are from which one, or from all. Unless I’m reading recipes for salads or pavlova in January.

January 10, 2022 at 4:12 pm #1204713773Yeah it’s just not happening for The Tourist. It’s a solid show but it’s also essentially a popcorn movie that has been dragged out across six hours and we know how BAFTA juries don’t tend to go all out for more gp oriented adult dramas (i.e. The Night Manager‘s shut out outside of Hollander).
That being said Danielle Macdonald is someone who I definitely can see stand out with a jury.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
